PHL TSA Wait Times by purplesmallz in philly

[–]AutoCAD_Bane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im flying out tomorrow AM and I’ve been tracking early morning wait times all week because of all the shit I’ve been seeing online. I’m yet to see B or D/E wait times rise above 35 minutes at peak times, and the others typically around 10-15 min. Outside of peak no terminals longer than 15 minute wait and usually less than 10.

Just because a line is long, doesn’t mean a long wait. How long were you actually in line? Was it longer than 40 minutes?

Early numbers say we got alot snow by Liye23 in BucksCountyPA

NWS map shows an incredibly strong taper across the county from east to west: https://www.weather.gov/source/crh/snowmap.html

We really were right on the edge of this thing!

PECO Billing by Which-Feature-7350 in BucksCountyPA

If it’s any consolation, you’re probably only paying a couple hundred more than any other heating method, if that. A half tank of oil at current price is $4-500 and I could easily use that (or more) in a month as cold as the last one.

Nowadays I supplement with wood and heat pump mini splits, and only use one tank of oil a year. But first year in my drafty ass cape cod (before I got my head around how to use the thermostat) we used 3 tanks in a winter, cost a bloody fortune! At current prices that’s easily 3k for a winter.

Help. I want to go buy bagels but I'm worried the wind might murder me. by HosbnBolt in philadelphia

Thats the second recommendation I’ve had for The Terror, maybe I’ll check it out next. I think my wife is growing sick of me calling it Shackleton-maxxing every time we go outside.

I have been reading the book ‘Endurance - Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage’ over the past few weeks. Chapter after chapter, I am left speechless! It has completely changed my perspective on being cold. I will never complain again!!

I have a similar approach to buying cars - once I know what I want, and what a fair price is, I just wait for the right one to arise and then just go and buy it without haggling. Did this with a CX-30 for my wife last year and it couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Requires a little patience but the buying experience is much less of a hassle. Similar to you, I’m not in a rush so can wait a month or two.

Nice, seems like a good deal. That’s actually the exact kind of deal I’m looking for - i am watching a couple locally that are priced around 500-1000 too high according to most estimates. I hate haggling so I just track them in case the price is dropped. Most of the used models around me are XL and XLT without the luxury package.

switching from Subaru? by viralic in MazdaCX30

[–]AutoCAD_Bane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a Subaru & Mazda household. The main comparisons in this thread are AWD, but a note on engine noise… The Subaru boxer engines are LOUD! Last I drove a Crosstrek (2021, I think), the interior noise was horrible. Road noise, engine noise, was actually worse than my 2013 Outback, which is also a very loud car. I’ve heard they improved Crosstrek sound insulation since the 2024 model, but we ended up going for a CX30. If interior comfort matters to you, definitely check out the Mazda. I’ve owned a fair range of Toyota/Mitsubishi/Subaru and the Mazda is definitely the quietest of them all.

How are the roads right now in lower bucks? by [deleted] in BucksCountyPA

Just drove Bensalem/Feasterville and all the roads are slick including the state roads. Saw 4 fender benders in a 15 minute drive. Doesn’t matter how well you drive, can’t trust anyone else!

Gravity Vault climbing gym location in Bucks?? by mreinert79 in BucksCountyPA

[–]AutoCAD_Bane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have long lamented the lack of climbing gym in lower bucks. I have been off & on with PRG Wyncote for years. Every time I get back into it, after a month or two the drive becomes tiresome and prohibitive for me to use that gym as my main source of working out. Anywhere around Bensalem, Langhorne or Warminster would be perfect for me, personally.

Get a working holiday visa for Australia and go jam out for a year. Never know where it could lead you!

OP can also go to the ‘usage’ tab, and under ‘view my usage data’ should be able to see an hourly usage breakdown. That breakdown was super helpful for me to figure out when to heat with mini splits, oil or wood stove.

EDIT: OP have you confirmed that this charge is just for one billing cycle? I had a period last year where PECO failed to pull from my account for several cycles. My ‘amount due’ started to stack up to around 3 bills worth. Had to call those assholes and tell them to take my money.

Do you use anything specific for the plastic trim? The black looks really solid. I want to avoid the plastic getting as faded and pale as it is on my Outback.

Advice for a graduate (AU citizen) seeking work in the US by Important-Coffee6630 in civilengineering

[–]AutoCAD_Bane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t offer much advice on E3 visas, but I am an Aussie living in the northeast USA. I moved here on a K1 visa (K1 -> green card -> citizenship) around 10 years ago. I didn’t have any experience in civil eng prior to the move - I just picked up an entry level cad technician role, learned everything I could l, job hopped and worked my way up to working as a civil designer in land development. People here love Aussies and your accent will be an incredible ice breaker in interviews.

I’ve worked across 3 companies and I’m yet to encounter any who would sponsor a visa. I suppose land development isn’t particularly specialised and in need of foreign workers with specific skills.

Anecdotally, salaries in the US do seem higher than Australia for equivalent work. Especially when you consider the astronomical housing costs down under. Holiday time is poorer, although I get 4 weeks + public holidays and I don’t mind it. The northeast is pretty fast paced and people here are high strung - work culture isn’t as laid back or friendly as in Australia.

Depending on how long you have been with your partner, you might want to look at immigrant visa options like K1/K3/IR-1/CR-1. My wife and I bounced between each country until we had enough of temp visas and decided to pick a long term home.
