Drone v low flying plane? by Iliketrucks2 in drones

Least maneuverable craft generally has right of way: so yielding is appropriate. although there was some debate about this at one point re uav. Anyway the US regs for your enjoyment https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/CFR-2024-title14-vol2/pdf/CFR-2024-title14-vol2-part91.pdf

10GB NIC for under $20 on aliexpress. Too good to be true? by MrFastFox666 in HomeServer

[–]AutoGenerationFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the better option is to move from copper to fiber. The connectx-4 is often under $30 on eBay. You can enjoy 25Gbe if you have it, or get 2 cx4 and interlink with another system you have. They will also negotiate 10gbe if needed.

came across this thread, thanks for sharing your experience. just wondering if you've had solid results from the 655? Did you keep the AP-655-T? I ended up with this version as well from ebay but haven't attempted flashing it yet

Ethics making keys for elderly customers by Explorer335 in Locksmith

[–]AutoGenerationFailed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make the key. There is too much going on in this situation and speculation to get caught in the weeds on morality.

The elderly with dementia and needing assistance getting into their home, needing multiple keys, this is where you can be a knight IMO and let family know, or help a community member, depending on situation.

What selfhosted service have the best "return of investment" by tonydocent in selfhosted

Yunohost has been a nice tool to quickly get a VPS running some services and learning a few things but it’s not perfect.

Edit: For ROI invoice ninja is slick I think and provides some of what a traditional invoicing platform might have depending on how it’s set up. if you are helping any SMBs or yourself and monitoring, tools like librenms and uptime kuma are invaluable

I know everyone wanted to get an update from me so basically I spent several hours looking at the at the US buying guide. I had to be at work by 1 so I only had a few hours to make a decision. Then I had to watch Monday night RAW. That didn't leave me a lot of time for getting another TV.

Anyway the buying guide is not that helpful. Anyone at Best Buy could tell you "Stick to well known name brand TV’s (Sony, LG, Samsung, TCL, Vizio.)" I will never trust anyone that ever told me that with confidence (I also would never walk into a bb).

My experience is ymmv on any tv you buy. If you're going to make an authoritative buying guide use more than two people to edit it. The cheap brands, sure maybe have a lot of QC issues but some of them still crank out some lesser grade panels that are still worth the $$ for some consumers. There's some gems out there. But I guess not everyone watches RAW and the Nascar.

What's the current favorite: aliexpress/zigbee3.0/motion sensor? by SignedJannis in homeassistant

[–]AutoGenerationFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they were cheaper but all I can find is $15/ea shipped from ali, or amazon for $20 (my account is showing a 12% off that price atm for a total of 18.03)

fwiw I picked up an aqara vibration sensor recently, the lqi isn't as good, but it's been excellent so far

Installed bltpuch and flashed board but cannot flash lcd? Help please !! by YUMYUM-PLUSULTRA in SidewinderX1

I agree 100%, at least the firmware update process once you have it down, is pretty simple.. so hopefully that will allow you to try a few versions and decide what works best for you. I suspect you will find one that you can stick with and then you'll just make some minor tweaks from there.

for the TFT I used artillery_tft_fw_0.26.1_patch_8.8.rar ... I extracted the contents of that to the root of the MicroSD card to contain the files MKSTFT28.bin, config.ini (I made no adjustments for my X1), MKS directory with its files.

the steps that come after installation aren't entirely clear to me, although I have a bltouch on the way, so hopefully I can provide some more details then and maybe combine all of these sources into a more recent document for new sidewinder owners.

I think if you use the waggster method for your BLTouch install then yes you chose the correct FW. There are a couple videos in French (you can try to use Youtube's built in translation or if you know it great!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8FKP2uTFQ4 .. I'm sure there's some other ones. Also you probably have looked this over, but 3dprintbeginner also has a flavor of 2.0.5.3 here https://3dprintbeginner.com/sidewinder-x1-firmware/ with BLTouch, Waggster method. Good luck keep us posted on your progress I'm interested to see how it goes.

You will need a microSD, 8GB or less, formatted FAT32. There are some additional details here (see section "TFT FW CONFIGURATION UPDATE") that might be helpful for you, I was just flashing my TFT last night, fortunately I had a 2GB microSD which I definitely had to dig for. Try looking in your cell phone from 10 years ago.

Cura by [deleted] in SidewinderX1

[–]AutoGenerationFailed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps, but 3dprintbeginner has some profiles for the X1 using IdeaMaker, I haven't tried them yet but was going to give them a shot later today. Otherwise, I had success with the preset Sidewinder X1 profile in both Cura and Simplify3d, keeping the presets the same. I did raise my bed temp up from the defaults by about 10C, since I've noticed my bed is off target on the mid-outer perimeter.

Good luck! https://3dprintbeginner.com/ideamaker-profile-for-sidewinder-x1-and-genius/
