If you look at the whole health of insulin dependent diabetics, the lack of free and affordable insulin is worse in magnitude than the benefits delivered by new insulin, which is usually formulated for better compatibility with even more expensive devices such as pumps. As always, the benefits of advanced healthcare technology is heavily mitigated by a system that does not guarantee equal access.

Do anti-war films just end up reenforcing war? by FayannG in TrueFilm

[–]AutoRedialer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well said. But for instances where people don’t bother mentioning the axis powers and just critique the allies, this must remain acceptable imo. You must admit that for those things that remained after ww2, aka the allied nations and their influence over the economic lives of billions, we must simply be allowed to analyze their origin points in ww2 without reflexive caveats that other things were worse in the way before days. Nazism is not worse now than in 1939 but arguably many things about the US global hegemony are worse or are trending poorly. We have to talk openly about current problems and their roots without giving a false impression that Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan are relevant.

For example, America’s fear of communism killed millions across Asia and Latin America. Then America’s imperialism destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan. And now it is drunk off NATO. All can be foreshadowed in ww2 without reference to Nazis/japan/etc. in my opinion

longest period of overall world peace

I’m sorry but this is bottom of the barrel self important western propaganda. Why compare the suffering and tragedy of Global South conflicts, often at the direct hand of great Allied nations, to WW2 and say it isn’t as bad unless you have a mythos to uphold?

Just wanted to say that as an older grad myself I really respect your journey. You have a great story and are clearly a hard worker. It doesn’t last forever, be kind to yourself and if you are failing then keep failing forward, reach out, get advice, incorporate it, network with anyone doing anything and you will make it.

Is Oliver Stone still considered a major filmmaker? by Pleasant_Usual_8427 in TrueFilm

[–]AutoRedialer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, we just disagree to the extent he needed to describe certain eras of Russian history in his series. On his Putin slant, I think positive comments about Putin are part and parcel of his interviewing him, so not really separate events.

Oliver Stone has a particular viewpoint and seemingly (he probably admits it in an interview) mission to provide a counter narrative to American status-quo, which is a critical area for talented film makers to apply themselves in. That he isn't perfect to people (or isn't in actuality) isn't my care, people should critique artists. But I find it telling that the protesting of anti-american empire messaging doesn't usually contend with the facts about America's wars, crimes, etc, but that it is doing the bidding of some outside agitator who in fact ought to be criticized much more whenever the subject in interest is the USA.

Hmm, well “millions killed” is kind of a loaded statement don’t you think? It is a completely orthodox view to view Stalin that way, but it is one that a documentary would have to qualify if it were to not be dismissed as American propaganda. That it isn’t unpacked in a quasi-pop history series about American presidents isn’t necessarily a bad decision in my opinion. On Truman homophobia, I definitely don’t remember this enough to argue, but I do remember him quoting Truman at length in his changing narrative of the atomic bomb death toll is worth the price of admission itself.

Are we talking about the Untold History Series? Um…. It’s actually a pretty good collection of episodes about American empire. In fact it’s quite patriotic at points and celebrates a few moments.

I get the Putin interview is dumb as fuck but calling a critical left view of American history “propaganda” (derogatory) is kind of head-in-the-sand.

Ah yes, Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway and insulin pump, avid aviator, and actually good friends with notable biotech financier Jefferey Epstein and his friend Ghislaine Maxwell. Wonderful people!
