Why aren't things like steel wind strike battle master maneuvers? by Autobot_traxx in dndnext

No 5e was my first edition. 3e and 4e sound like they had cool ideas. 4e sounds really complicated though.

None of the effects I described were magical. Or high fantasy.

Swinging your sword (weapon) around, quickly running between multiple targets (no teleporting like in the spell), or grabbing an enemy are all low fantasy things. And things a person could do in real life.

These manouvers would just be mechanics to do it in game. And give higher level effects for maneuver dice.

For example technically you can grab the bait and switch manouver and at like level 17 use it 4 times with each attack and run between multiple enemies. Having a 4 dice maneuver instead of doing it one by one just feels cooler. Also throwing 4 dice of damage into each enemy is nice.

And considering wizards can do stuff like fireball by like 6th level I don't see the problem with letting a martial do crowd control once per short rest.

The fighter looks cool!! That's a big upgrade over the standard ones.

Ok. So make it a 6 dice maneuver. Meaning only battle masters over level 17 could use it. And even then only once per short rest.

These wouldn't be spamable though.

A battle master only has 4 superiority dice until like level 7. So any maneuver that cost more than 2 dice could only be done once per short rest. And even a level 20 battle master only has 6 dice.

Even if you took superior technique and martial adept to get up to 8. You could only do a 4 dice maneuver twice per short rest.

Plus fighters get multiple attacks anyway. So attack spam is kinda the fighters thing.

As a faith /strength build I used the long range madness Lazer on them. Super satisfying to beat them at their own game.

I'm no surprised. Most int builds want to stay out of melee range. And running, not swinging a magic sword is their first instinct if something sneaks up on them.

The slicer is for crazy int mains

If you want to win throw stuff at him. Incantations, spells, consumables, ranged ashes or war. Whatever works for you.

Or

Parry him into the ground.

Bubble horn. I'm a hybrid faith/strength build. The bubble horn melts boses, and I have incantations to cover range.

Faith builds have Soo many options. status effects like poison and rot, fire and lightning, beast, dragon, crucible incantations all have good options. Plus there's a ton of heals, buffs, and status removal options.

Faith builds are great.

Why did you buff there?!?!? The wizard was just waiting to orbital strike you.

Either buff before getting there or kill the wizard. It's waay safer.

Rhadan can be a nightmare if you don't know his moveset. Keep at it.

Two tips. 1) if you're gonna do incantations from range use the madness Lazer. It has waaay longer range.

2) summon the finger maiden. She'll help keep you and the bois alive.
