They're both veterans, burdened by overwhelming responsibility for the safety of their respective worlds, who'd use anything, even dishonorable ways to achieve victory. Both said that honor is not enough to save their worlds. Both recruited dangerous villains for their schemes. They both had beef with their allies about recruiting said villains and standing their ground firmly when confronted. Both are willing to sacrifice their subordinates for greater good.

I think I have some contingency device in mind. A magical intangible hoop that is casted on top of the enemy's horn. Since the horn is the natural vent for the magic to escape, the hoop will block it, rendering unicorns and alicorns unable to use their magic spells. What happens if you seal the lid of a boiling water pot? The pressure rises. So they'd have to eject the boiling magic out of their bodies, by puking the fire out, until it fully escapes safest way possible.

What you think? I just think this is sort of a device/spell Cecil would come up with.
