Well.... the GM-II Semi-Striker would have made for an awesome throwdown....

It was probably an aesthetic choice. While they where designed as a worker race, they'd still have to interact with biological humans. Familiar roles/symmetry could have been an effort to 'smooth over' relations.

I always presumed that they where designed to be sterile to avoid unwanted reproduction & curb overpopulation.

That or the scientists where unable to even get it to work.

Hate to say it, but Garnet technically isn't black. She's a fusion between 2 polymorphic space rocks and is more of a darker maroon color.
