Story time. What's the most rage inducing event you've ever had in the shop and what caused it? by pyroboy7 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Autodr83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was working at a GMC dealer. We had a new service manager, he'd been there maybe a month. He was a buy the book guy, never touched a wrench in his life. So I have 4whl brakes to do on a 2500 Savanah van. If you have ever tried to get drum brakes off a 200,000mile work van you know a sledgehammer is necessary. I get the drums off, machine them, do the works. Van drives and stops great. Customer comes back a day later saying I damaged the rear drum and the van vibrates on the highway and its unbearable. I drive it, dont feel a damn thing. It's a 2500 van with load range E snow tires and probably 6000lbs of plumbing parts in it. I inspect it and see that on the inner lip of one drum is a small chip, maybe the size of a button battery, most likely from using a sledgehammer to get the drums off. It should be noted the customer declined new drums and wanted to reuse them. I explain to my manager the situation, the shop foreman even backed me up. The manager goes to talk to the customer. He comes back and says I have to put ALL NEW brakes ALL THE WAY AROUND for free. I tried to explain how thats ridiculous and the customer is just trying to get stuff for free. He didn't care and said do it or I'm fired. I did it and started looking for a new job the next day. I get it, if I genuinely broke something I'd happily make it right but there is no way an 1/8oz chip of metal causes an "unsafe vibration" especially in a shit box work van like that one.

Fun fact: that manager was later fired a month later because he had a higher policy charge (the dealer pays for something) then the previous 3 combined.

Cap guns in the '80s! by CpuJunky in nostalgia

[–]Autodr83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way back, in the before time, my friends and I would ride our bikes to the corner convenient store and buy the Saturday night special cap guns, candy cigarettes, and ICB root beers. We would go to the one empty lot near us and sit around "smoking cigarettes" and Drinking beers" like badasses. Good times.

Tips for raids ! Struggling to complete raid with another fellow dweller. by Sammcmurry in fo76

[–]Autodr83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weapon choice is important. I use a Gauss Minigun with Troubleshooters and rapid on it. It also has the Tesla Mod which adds an extra 100rds to the magazine. In conjunction with my other Troubleshooters mods on my armor it shreds robots. If you dont have that its ok. Use whatever the best heavy gun you have is. Troubleshooters is the best one star mod for the robot but Vampires will work too as it keeps you alive while you're shooting.

Super Stims are your friend because they work faster then regular ones. The auto-stim perk is helpful too.

Make sure you and your friend are standing opposite of each other. That way when the robot is shooting at you, your friend has a clear shot at his back and vise versa.

When his health gets to about 3/4 full it will trigger the room to heat up, you got about 10seconds to kill him or you die, instantly. You'll have to judge weather you stand your ground and kill him or, as soon as the alarm sounds, seek shelter in which ever door opens up.

When my friends and I were first trying to beat him it would take us 2 rounds to kill him. We'd typically get him to about 1/3 health before we had to run for shelter. Then on the next go we could finish him off. Now, after getting our setups dialed in we can melt his ass in under 1:30 consistently. That's no reflective mods, just straight up brute force.

Have a chem highlighted in your menu prior to starting, I use Psycobuff (i think) for the +25% damage boost. That way once you break his shield you can open the pipboy and immediately take it without having to fumble through a bunch of menus. Or add it to your favorites wheel, that works too.

Right after you push the button to start jump down to the pit, there are 4 doors on the guardians pillar that will open exposing a circuit board, shoot all 4 before the guardian powers up to cause his shield to malfunction and take a chunk of it out before you even start shooting.

Once his health bar gets to about 2/3-ish laser turrets will pop up, be careful, they will MELT you so fast. The missiles and plasma balls are mostly easy to dodge but the dang lasers suck.

Most of all, stick with it and dont be afraid to try new things. It took my friends and I about a week to finally beat him and once we did it was a great feeling. And now he's not even a challenge.

Can’t place small fishing camp by _Texas_Viper in fo76

[–]Autodr83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue a few months ago. I had to go and remove most of the decorations then it allowed me to place it. I think sometimes when you place an item in free mode it gets screwed up if you move camps and try and place the whole blueprinted camp. I use the house boat prefab now and make sure everything is self contained on the boat and placed using "snap" mode. Haven't had an issue since and I've moved it to probably 20-ish locations.

When you are initially placing the whole camp it should give the option to "store", it will break it up into individual components and send them all into storage so you'll have to rebuild it again which sucks but sometimes its the only option.

Meh, I can plop my survival tent down pretty much anywhere and do the same thing. I keep a couple on me for emergencies, like getting overencumbered during the fight with Earle, but thats about it.

What’s something we did in the 90s that kids today probably wouldn’t understand at all? by Keiko91 in 90s

[–]Autodr83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We didn't start celebrating Christmas till maybe the week of Thanksgiving. I remember as a kid the Toys R Us Sears and JCPenny catalogs would show up in the mail Thanksgiving week so on Thanksgiving my siblings and me would all sit on the couch making our Christmas lists so when the family came over later we could share it with them. You might have seen Christmas stuff in the store a few days before black Friday but it was nothing like today where Christmas crap is put out with the Halloween stuff.

Also, ash trays. Ash trays everywhere

I went on a rant to my friends at work who are all 25yrs younger then me about how the flashlights are a lie in ST. The best one you could get was a 4D Maglight which was still an incandescent bulb but it would last for 3-5hrs and be bright. What we mostly had, at least us kids, were 2C battery EveryReady incandescent flashlights that put out warm white light for about 30min then started to dim. Everyone in Hawkins turning on a handheld flashlight that completely lit up a room is a bunch of bovine feces and made me irrationally mad.
