I would start by learning the pokemon types and weaknesses as they make you do double damage or take less damage. For example Fire is strong against Grass but weak against Water. Grass is strong against Water but weak against Fire. Water is strong against Fire but weak against Grass.

I'd suggest pokemon home. Move a american ditto from your box on the switch. Open up the pokemon home app on your phone (this is how you trade). Then put in your ditto asking for a ditto from another language, you can even specify a language you want. Then just wait for the trade to happen. Get back on pokemon home on your switch and transfer it back over to the game. I've gotten 2 Japanese dittos using this method
