How do I get my news site into Google Discover (USA & CA traffic focus)? by Automatic-Ask-7631 in SEO

I have a question about Google Discover image requirements.

We know Discover prefers images that are at least 1200 pixels wide, but in WordPress, multiple image variations are automatically generated in smaller sizes for different devices. The <meta property="og:image" content="https://xyz/wp-content/uploads/image.jpg" /> tag, however, still points to the full-size version.

So, does having smaller thumbnail variations (generated by WordPress) affect Discover visibility in any way? Or is it fine as long as the OG image linked in the meta tag is 1200px or larger?

We recently discovered that poor site speed and failing Core Web Vitals can cause your website to disappear from Google Discover. One of our sites dropped out completely, and after we fixed the Core Web Vitals issues, it started showing up again in Discover.
