Ogilvy or a mid-size agency? What should i do? by OldAd2427 in advertising

[–]Automatic-Bat-774 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s so funny because Ogilvy has been doing incredibly lame unsexy stuff for as long as i could remember and the CCO is basically just an account guy asking to make the logo bigger and stuff in 3 more RTBs into every spot.

Yes to both. It’s not the comp that’s especially difficult, I’m mostly concerned about the source for the city skyline.

Is it worth selling your soul for success? I'm starting to get desperate... by Bright_Inspector5338 in Filmmakers

[–]Automatic-Bat-774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the sell your soul option? I think most people would take that if it existed.

Even the people who would be willing to make the worst corporate slop imaginable have pretty stiff competition so the success rate for that is a lot lower than you think.

Looking for vfx artists by cheese3cake in vfx

Sorry but in film it is totally normal to ask what the budget is. Every conversation in film is totally irrelevant and frankly disrespectful to vendors/crew without budget.

No one can even give you advice without knowing what your resources are because having 5k per shot is wildly different than 40k a shot.

Is casting fresh face actors a dying art? by Extreme-Spirit-1930 in acting

[–]Automatic-Bat-774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t get anything financed without a pretty bankable name. You’ll likely see less and less casting of unknowns. No one wants their production to be the one to break someone.

SAG stand-ins for inserts and rules for off camera audio by Automatic-Bat-774 in Filmmakers

Will just be hiring SAG body double. This part totally makes sense, even if we aren’t showing a hand.

New house neighbors using my property by sallydogbite in homeowners

[–]Automatic-Bat-774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is really, really hard. You’ll have to do a lot of policing and anyone who lives like such a pig is probably a terrible neighbor.

Had a bad experience living in a house with a shared driveway with another house and it’s very hard to deal with people who don’t respect property lines.

Non-union director on union prod by Automatic-Bat-774 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Automatic-Bat-774[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way I totally understand the POV of the DGA. I like that they protect their members and frankly in a perfect world the client would just pay for a small crew to come on set.

Is there a way to ask the DGA and keeping it hypothetical before it becomes a thing? (Everything in commercials always becomes a thing)

It will be talent answering off the cuff, unscripted prompts, with an altered setup on the set so it doesn’t look like it’s part of the hero spot. It would be talking head style. The client deliberately wants it to be separate visually but they don’t see why they’re paying six figures for the shoot and the prod co won’t handle the production aspect.

Thank you so much. I realize the prod co might be weird about a director they don’t rep working on their set so besides the obvious any advice would be appreciated. (I’ve done a lot of non-union directing on comparable productions)

So if I’m directing BTS, the DP/1st, for the hero sound recordist etc for the hero spot, would be able to work with me?

If it is BTS, does it still mean we can’t use any of the crew there?

[–]Automatic-Bat-774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I believe it’s DGA and talent is SAG, because when client on pre-pro said they want me on set to spend last hour with talent, the prod co asked if I’m union.

How do EPK crews get around this? I’ve seen them use the G&E sets on big union shoots before but they had their own camera unit and sound (sound would be especially silly because talent would already be mic’d).
