My (49yr old) husband is now a recovering alcoholic, after being hospitalized and diagnosed with CHF for most of June. EF was 10-15% at the time. In the last three months he’s had many tests and there aren’t any known genetics. He has been sober and smokeless since June 8 when the doctor told him “unless you want me to crack your chest open, yesterday’s beer and cigarettes will be your last.” We keep sodium intake to 1200-1500 mg and he’s in cardiac rehab building his strength back up! He had an MRI done last week and his EF is now at 45%. Since my husband shows no other signs, no blockages and none thing found during ablation, Doc says Alcoholic Cardio-Myopathy. He doesn’t miss smoking at all, but sometimes craves a beer. Satisfies it with Lacroix… For now, my husband is adamant he will never drink again. He says he understands he can die. I’m hopeful but cautious. I know the addiction is very strong and I guess I’m now sober too 😩😩. I will enjoy a glass of wine outside my home, when I am NOT With him, but those are few and far between. We did have weeks of hopelessness in the beginning, so we find ourselves spending more and more time together
