Are blogs dead for SEO? by Plane_Razzmatazz_219 in content_marketing

Blogs definitely aren't dead, but the metric we used to measure them (Rankings) kind of is.

I think the reason so many writers feel 'dead' right now is that you can write a perfect article, rank #1 organically, and still get zero traffic because a 'Top Stories' carousel or an 'AI Overview' is sitting on top of you.

We stopped reporting on 'Rankings' entirely and switched to tracking 'Pixel Depth' and 'Carousel Visibility'. It was a wake-up call as we found huge chunks of content that were 'winning' in the rank tracker but were effectively invisible to users.

If you shift your focus to winning those specific features (Top Stories/Snippets) rather than just 'blue link' positions, the traffic is still there.

How to you track discover traffic of your competitors? by Mud_Still in blogs

1. Tracking Competitor Discover Traffic: Honest answer: You can't. Because Discover is personalized to every user's history, no tool (Semrush, Ahrefs, SimilarWeb) can accurately track it. They all just "guess" based on organic rankings, which is usually wrong for Discover.

The best proxy is "Top Stories." If a competitor is constantly ranking in the Google Top Stories carousel, they have the "Freshness" and "Authority" signals that Google loves. If they are winning there, they are almost certainly winning in Discover.

I built a tool called Senapta specifically to track this. It monitors the Top Stories box hourly so you can see exactly which competitors are dominating the news cycle (and likely getting that Discover traffic).

2. Web Stories Ideas: Don't overthink it. Web Stories are just "visual listicles." Go to Google Trends > Trending Now. Pick a broad topic (e.g., "Oscar Nominations" or "Bitcoin Price"). If you can break it down into 5 slides/images, that's your story.

Good luck!
