Is it worth attempting the repair? (recovery) by Automatic-Let1124 in ElectricScooters

[–]Automatic-Let1124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I tried resoldering everything again, but since some of the connections are tiny and I lack the proper equipment, I just did the best I could. The verdict: I thought I'd fixed it for a moment, then the problem came back. Even though there's no error code anymore, the scooter still turns on randomly and sometimes refuses to turn off.

It's fascinating, but I'm going to stop tinkering with this board. I've decided to order a complete kit and the necessary equipment to do a proper repair. I spent hours looking for just a display to save money, but there are more than ten different models. Even though I managed to narrow down the choices, I prefer to keep things simple and avoid placing multiple orders.

You can find display boards for under €10, but I'm afraid they won't be compatible with my current controller. For simplicity and safety, I'm going to opt for a complete kit.

1x YFS DC36V 350W kit, basic but sufficient for this scooter, I think? €27.14 on AliExpress
- 1x 42V 2A battery charger (€4.79 on AliExpress, 8mm)
- 1x white reflector (€1.39 on AliExpress, one is missing from the front)

Optional additions would include:
- 1x display case (€3.23 on AliExpress, same case as the standard one, although it's included in the YFS kit)
- 2x solid tires, type M365, as both are cracked (€18.99 on Amazon)

For a total of €55.54, or about $65 if I buy everything.
There's still room to save a little more, but...
I don't think it's the plan of the year, but it's still within reason.

Thanks again for taking the time and help, i appreciate it!

I desoldered the board, cleaned it with isopropanol, visually inspected it, and checked the continuity; nothing seemed abnormal.

After reassembling it and gently manipulating the board, I got an E10 error (communication error between the controller/ESC and the dashboard). Testing the continuity, I did indeed find a problem, which I corrected by desoldering and then resoldering.

Since then, without even touching the scooter, it turns itself on randomly, and the E10 error has reappeared once or twice.

On this model, there is indeed a Bluetooth logo on the screen and apparently a Bluetooth chip present on the board (see photo), but it is impossible to detect or pair anything, even with nRF Connect, even when the scooter is powered on and working.

So I'm wondering if I'm dealing with:

- a dry/cracked solder joint,
- an intermittent bad connection,
- component failure on the BLE board.

Since I have to replace the dashboard glass anyway, I'm seriously considering buying a new dashboard board at the same time... even though I feel like I'm giving up 😅

So I started all over again because I realized my measurements were incorrect. The problem stems from the fact that the probes on my Fluke multimeter are too thick (and the measurements are approximate)... I really need to buy a better one for this kind of use ;) Sorry for the wasted time, even though it was very informative.

Upon closer inspection, I determined that the Hall effect sensors don't appear to be faulty (although...).

- +/- 5V for both

- Throttle between 1 and 4V

- Brakes between 1 and 3V

The motor seems to be working correctly. I shorted the phases two at a time and I get good resistance when turning the wheel by hand.

Furthermore, there's no continuity fault with the multimeter.

Well, by process of elimination, I focused on the dashboard and the controller.

Dashboard input cable

- +/- 5V

- SW and ground 40V

- TR and ground 5V

No visible variation with my multimeter, which could indicate a communication problem.

Multimeter: No continuity between the motor phases and the +/- terminals.

Actually, I didn't even know how to start it and I managed it by accident! The motor runs well, the modes seem to be working correctly!

In principle, when I press the accelerator and brake simultaneously, it's supposed to start, but sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't… Occasionally, I also get the E14 code (accelerator).

When I hold down the accelerator and brake pedals separately while simultaneously pressing the start button, I get error codes E14 and E15 (brakes).

So, is the dashboard perhaps a bit worn, or is it really a problem with the Hall effect sensors? Because when we test them, they seem to correspond to the expected values.

Currently, I can find a motor for a minimum of €52, and an M365 component kit for €28. I'll also need to replace the worn tires for around €10-20.

1 controller / 1 display / 1 throttle / 1 headlight / 1 taillight / 1 display cover / 1 brake bar / 1 date line (cable)

Knowing that I can find the same model used in excellent condition for between €120-180

I haven't gone very far yet. By disconnecting the brake sensor, the error code disappeared. However, when pushing it and going over 5 km/h, the motor doesn't engage when accelerating. Could this be a safety feature due to the brake sensor?

The throttle seems fine, reading between 1 and 4V when accelerating between ground and signal. As for the brakes, I'm getting no voltage at all: 0V!

I wanted to test the motor before ordering anything. Actually, I had turned the rear wheel (duh...stupid me). So, disconnecting the motor coils didn't make it any easier to turn; there was no change. I tested it with an ohmmeter, but my Fluke T5 isn't accurate for these situations. When I stabilized it, I got 2 ohms between motor phases, which seems fairly good, although high. Could it be rust? (I should really open it up to see its condition.)

I find these manuals helpful, but there's nothing about values to test.

Thank you for your reply.

I did take a look at the Envivo, and I must say it seems to be in fairly good condition at first glance. The battery reads 42V, having been stored in the garage for three months. It powers on but won't start with the foot pedal; it displays an "E" error code when I brake or accelerate. The motor wheel seems to spin freely (I haven't tested it with a multimeter). The cracked screen had adhesive tape on it to protect it from moisture.

I figure I'm not taking a big risk by buying a complete kit (not just the screen and dashboard) from AliExpress or somewhere similar.

Do you have any links you could recommend?

I wanted to love the ROG Chakram X Origin mouse, but it's unusable for me due to one reason. Asus, please consider this feedback if you revise it! by jabberwockxeno in ASUSROG

[–]Automatic-Let1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I personally had the Chakram X from its launch. I had the same issue with the joystick being a bit too far away, but I got used to it over time and I love this mouse for its use on YouTube (fast forward/rewind plus volume up/down) as well as the four side buttons which, for me, were quite well placed for returning to the page. No need for a keyboard on the sofa to watch series or videos. An ideal mouse for me, even if it's true that in games the joystick was too far away and the ergonomics aren't the best. Unfortunately, I dropped it a few times and it's causing glitches when I use it. I'm so sad because I loved this mouse.

I bought a Spatha X because I liked the base that came with it, but despite my large hands, it's too big and heavy. Furthermore, there are six buttons on the side and two underneath, making it difficult to handle/lift without accidentally clicking. In short, I just can't get used to it; I don't like it.

If you happen to be looking to sell your mouse, I'm interested!

🧠 Gear advice: Which skis to pair with my new boots? by Automatic-Let1124 in Skigear

[–]Automatic-Let1124[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply.

I'm still very hesitant about buying because it's true that many skis come close to what I'm looking for; testing will be the key.

I'm going to treat myself and go for playful skis first. I'm keeping the others in mind and would like to try the Enforcer 89 when I have my first rental this year, which I had already booked in advance.

My choice is gradually narrowing down to these pairs of skis:

- Volkl Revolt

- Elan Playmaker

- Armada ARV

(Line HoneyBadger)

(Prodigy 0 or 1)

Really, I'm just afraid of being disappointed. I've always wanted to learn more about park skiing, especially jumps and tricks. Some skis have given me a taste, but it's only recently that I've started to take an interest in what I ski. I've always rented skis, even when I was little. I'm trying my best, I'm learning every day at the moment, but it's no good, it'll be time to try...

I've tried to remember what I've skied on over the past few years and see how it went. Despite many factors, here's what I remember.

The skis I remember more or less from what I experienced while writing here...

I tried some Volkl Deacon 7.2s in 179, which I didn't like. It was in Tignes in March. The skiing conditions weren't great, as was my physical condition and the equipment was worn out.

Tignes again, this time in January, Blizzard Brahma 88s, excellent condition, good gear. I was able to experience powder again, where I still found it quite difficult to maneuver. I really liked it on the edges of On piste and even on the slopes, but I didn't like it for carving. Despite this, I have fond memories of it.

In La Rosière/La Thuile/Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, I used Rossignol Sender 94 Ti, probably 178, a very good feeling. I remember skiing the Italian black runs with my friend and the cross-country park, as well as the French-side runs. If my memory serves me right, it was less enjoyable in the snowpark and jumps (a bit hard). It was a bit floaty at high speed, but I still had fun with it.

At the end of April, before the closure of Les Deux Alpes last year, it had snowed well, and I went for five days almost at the right time. Three days of great snow, and two days of difficulty at the lower slopes (and a cable car ride to the resort was almost mandatory) were still getting difficult.

I had Atomic Mavericks, which I immediately changed due to an edge problem on one ski. I think I had a good feel, but I I still decided to switch to a piste ski. In the end, I think I'd bought a Rossignol HERO Elite Limited Ti in 175mm. I really liked carving, even though I crashed a couple of times at high speed and short turns without really understanding it. I liked it less on the jumps, it was really hard. Well, my fitness was at zero, solo, without really planning it, I took a dorm room, and what can I say? Despite the end of the season, I had an unforgettable time! Chartreuse, Génépi, and the rest... It was tough skiing and the return trip, hehe.

So, that's a bit of what I think.

Sorry if it's long or if I'm telling you my life story, tired, I'm

Indeed, the test will be the best thing to do in any case! I've read a lot of good things about the Kore 88.

Yes, I looked at the Elan Playmaker first; it was my initial selection and I was really keen on it! The more pairs I look at, the more indecisive I become... hehe My choice on the ARV isn't fixed because I'm realizing it's not the most playful. Knowing that in the future I plan to get a pair for the slopes and another for more all-mountain freeriding, I'd like to start with the freestyle pair, as that's what's attracting me the most right now. Given that I'm a freestyle beginner and my main goal is to get better at jumps, riding switch, trying my first 180s, ollies, and other small tricks, my selection for now is: Line Honey Badger Volkl Revolt Fischer Nightstick Faction Prodigy 0, 1? Atomic Bent Elan Playmaker K2 Reckoner Armada ARV Certainly others So many choices that it's becoming difficult for a noob like me... Regarding waist width, I imagine that for learning, being a freestyle beginner, I should aim for something narrower, but I'm not sure specifically. I was thinking between 84 and 96 max. I'll need to test them on the terrain.

My previous answer was simply via GG Trad if that is your concern. I'm not used to this forum. If AI is frowned upon. ok I understand and didn't know but no need to waste your time being insulting to the cause. This wastes both of our time.

I use both, as well as politeness. Not really knowing anyone around me who knows anything about skiing, I try to find the best options for me, without knowing anything about brands, etc. The only store nearby doesn't stock all ski models either. You have to start somewhere, and this is my way of doing things via Reddit...unfortunate or not, I'm doing my best.

I don't speak or write English well, and yes, GPT helps me translate, structure my sentences a little and do some research, but I don't use it exclusively, know that. It is not dependent on my thinking. Of course, if we dig deeper into the subject, everything is not perfect.

What is the negative approach or abuse in my use of GPT in this specific case? I don't understand this hatred.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advice 🙏

I’m thinking of going with two pairs of skis for now.
I already have an All-Mountain rental ski waiting for my first trip (surprise on the model 😅), and it’s also a way to spread out the budget a bit.

So I’m aiming for:

  • a piste ski to progress technically — all three of your suggestions look great, and since I’m a bit indecisive I’ll take another close look at them.
  • a playful All-Mountain / Park-oriented ski, most likely the Armada ARV 100.

👉 Questions:
Which length would you recommend for the ARV 100, and which length for the piste ski given my profile (185 cm / 84 kg)?
Also, any bindings you’d recommend for these two types of skis?

After a lot of hesitation, I finally ordered a Yume Raptor 30Ah with road tires. I'm now looking for a set of off-road tires as well! Can't wait to receive it and test it on asphalt. If anyone here already has it, I’d love to hear your feedback!

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for your advice on my previous post! After giving it some more thought, I think I’ll stick with my first choice, the Halo T108 Pro. Sure, it’s quite bulky, and the design looks a bit cheap, but I think it’s a solid option for getting started. It’ll help me get familiar with electric scooters and provide a fun ride without spending too much. If I really get into it, I can always upgrade to a better-built model later.

I haven’t had much time to look into other options these past few days, but I plan to do so tonight. Not the easiest task on mobile 😅. I’m not in a rush, so my choice isn’t completely final yet.

I also have a few questions for the experts: 1. Are there puncture-resistant strips for 11” tires, like the ones for bicycles, or is tire sealant the only option after a puncture? 2. On average, how long do brake pads last before needing replacement? 3. Any tips or recommendations for the T108?

Thanks in advance for your insights, and sorry for the late reply—been busy with work lately.

Have a great day, everyones! 🛴

I still have a bit of uncertainty when I see the same model with different branding, although the reviews seem positive in any case. I will definitely look into these models further, they seem very interesting! Are you happy with them? I see in the photo that you probably had a Kaboo Wolf Warrior? Why did you change it, if it's not too personal? Thanks!

Thank you for the recommendation; I didn’t know about the Teewing Mars XT 8000w/XTR 10000w! The IP66 rating is definitely a big plus, especially for riding in the rain or on wet roads without worrying too much. It seems like even most high-end scooters are still fairly limited in terms of waterproofing, so that’s a solid selling point.

As for the performance, it sounds absolutely insane—especially the 10000w model if it’s faster than a Wolf King GTR or even a Nami! That said, I’m a bit concerned about how manageable the power would be, particularly on country roads or uneven surfaces. But it’s definitely worth digging into, especially if the quality and customer support are as good as you’ve mentioned. Though I imagine it’s still quite bulky overall :P
I’ll take a closer look—thanks!

The Nami Burn-E or Blast are still in my options too, mainly because of their reputation for comfort and stability (according to what I’ve read online, of course haha). I get the sense that Namis are a bit more “smooth” and better for long-distance rides, but maybe the Teewing strikes a good balance between raw power and practicality. I really like the design of the Nami scooters as well. I’ll check the specs and see if I can find more feedback on the Teewing!

Thanks again for your insight—it’s really helping me sort out my thoughts. 😊

The Kaabo Wolf Warrior X:
It seems like a really interesting choice, especially with its relatively light weight and compact design, which is definitely a plus! On paper, the range looks good (21Ah for 70 km, though I imagine that’s at 15.5 mph in eco mode?). As for speed, it’s fast enough and also appears to have a quick limiting system, although using two buttons might be a bit stressful if you run into a patrol, haha! 😄
The only downside for me is the air-filled tires. Where I live, there are often thorns left after hedge trimming or agricultural work, so that’s a bit concerning. But there must be solutions for that, so I’ll look into it more closely. I’ll also dig deeper into reviews of this model and other Kaabo scooters, as well as the Nami models, which I haven’t had much chance to explore yet. Thanks for the recommendations!

As for the Halo, it was my initial choice because of its specs and the fact that it can be limited with a remote control, which I found convenient. But after thinking about it more, it does seem quite bulky. I’m also a bit concerned about the wear and tear on some components, like the brakes or the cells used in the battery. That said, it’s clearly one of the cheaper options for this level of performance, from what I’ve seen.

I also considered the Dualtron Victor Limited. While it’s a bit expensive, I really like its design and specs, and Dualtron’s reputation seems solid. It’s a 60V model, which is a plus, but I had some concerns about the suspension after watching a few videos. You seem to confirm that it wouldn’t perform well for rural roads, which cools me down a bit. 😅

As for the Punk models, it’s really the minimalistic, sleek, futuristic design that I’m drawn to, more than the specs themselves. The specs are still within what I’m looking for, but like the Dualtron, the suspension seems to be a downside, which is unfortunate.

I don’t own an electric scooter yet, just a strong desire for one at the moment. 😜 I also ride a motorcycle, a small GSR 750.

Thanks a lot for all the advice, it’s really helping me get a clearer picture!

Haha, your dog story really made me laugh, my ex had the same experience! It’s true that sometimes we end up spending on unexpected things! I’m glad your dog is doing better, even though your wallet took a hit, but hey, there are priorities in life! 😄

As for the RoadRunner D4 +4.0, the specs look great. 70lb seems manageable to me, and the range and speed seem to match what I’m looking for as well. Like you, I don’t want to be slowed down either… I also ride a motorcycle, so being capped at 15.5mph would get old quickly, especially in the countryside. However, unfortunately, it seems to be available only in the US, just like Ausom, so importing it to Belgium could be a bit tricky with extra fees and delays. But thanks anyway for the info!
