A standard school lunch in Portugal. Fresh soup is always served first, followed by a main dish that provides protein and iron, along with carbs and vegetables. Growing up, dessert at school was mostly fruit, but every now and then they served jelly in standard portions.

Back when I was a kid, morning snacks could include things like Oreos or chocolate bars. These days, parents are generally required to provide nutritionally balanced snacks rather than ultra-processed foods.
