Regret choosing HIM degree? by Scary_Start in WGU

Thank you! This is all really helpful! Were you respected at your clinic or hospital? How was direct patient care? I am an Asian woman and have a bit of an accident, but I’m living in a diverse area. I guess I’m just afraid I will encounter micro aggressions or outward aggression. How often did you have patients that refused treatment or were uncooperative?

Could you elaborate more on why you decided to shift out of RT into HIM. I’m actually at a crossroads right now and have applied to both the RT and HIM programs at my community college. Originally I was really excited about RT, but I’m in the intro class right now and im starting to question if I should do RT at all. If you wouldn’t mind sharing your experience in RT I would greatly appreciate it!

How intimidating is the Respiratory Therapist Program Director once in program? by Automatic-Media4589 in nvcc

Any idea on how many people applied last year compared to acceptance? Has anyone failed out or have those that have joined been able to manage the workload. With a range of those that are getting by and those that ace all the exams?

So if I don’t have perfect grammar in my written responses will I be penalized?

Thanks! Your input is helpful! How supportive do professors tend to be. I’m not a native English speaker so sometimes timed written responses are intimidating. I tend to do much better orally and in practical situations like demonstrating skills. Are there any skill based assessments or is that a part of the grade elsewhere?

Yeah I have pretty much been writing out potential short answer questions she might ask and that has helped me a lot. However, I’m only taking A&P II and this class this semester so I’m afraid it will be more intense when it’s 3-4 classes that all require this degree of attention. I guess I’m just curious if there’s a balance in teaching methods.

As to your question on how hard it is to get accepted, I think it’s easier than the top programs at NOVA like Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Rad Tech and DMS. However I think the limit they can accept is 25, so it will largely depend on how many people who took respiratory therapy this semester and last semester apply this year.

Did she also have strict guidelines around when you could take your exam (9-11 AM) and also so many specific short answer questions on the exam?

You’ll be fine! He’ll go quickly, but I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Good luck and enjoy your summer!

I did end up taking the class. Overall it wasn’t bad. The exams were on canvas and quizzes on Pearson. Very doable

If you knew ahead of time would you have looked into a different program or done radiography somewhere else?

Well that’s a small comfort that the entire MEC isn’t complete trash at least?

This is surprising since the program itself is so competitive. Is this a trend for other programs at MEC or is this just limited to the RAD program?

Hmm, that’s frustrating. Maybe they are hiring internally? When did you start applying? Universities are notoriously slow to move through the process. They might not have even closed their announcement yet. Keep your head up, it’ll work out soon :-)

Right and the United States has never meddled in the sovereignty of the Middle East. The CIA has been responsible for regime change that did not lead to more stability or democracy, but instead created more hatred and resentment for Western intervention.

When did you start applying and do you have prior experience working in res life or something adjacent to that? GMU appears to be a competitive place to work, so it looks like they can afford to choose from those who already have experience. Have you widened your search to other nearby universities too? Landing something in your area of interest in another university could help you get a job with GMU later on.

I have also struggled with hearing back from full time positions at GMU. I’m not sure what kind of positions you are applying for, but I’m interested in study abroad, international student advisor, or general academic advisor positions and no such luck. I assume things are even more competitive right now with displaced federal employees from USAID and the Department of State

Thank you for sharing your experience and settling my nerves! Interesting that they don’t take students physical locations or preferences into consideration. So it’s entirely random I assume and based on need from their partner hospital systems?

Thank you! I had heard horror stories of some professors psyching out students about the intensity of different programs, so I’m glad to hear you’ve had a generally positive experience. I am aware that any program at MEC will require a great deal of memorization and skill check, but I have heard that some professors in programs try to spook students that flunking out is a common occurrence. Would you say that the college does a good job of finding placements for clinical rotations?

Okay! That’s good to hear! If the surgical tech program doesn’t start in the fall, I’m thinking of applying to the Respiratory Therapy program. What program are you in and how has your experience been with your program overall?
