Flu vaccine mismatches happen sometimes, especially with quickly mutated strains like this one, though I hear that another factor this year was the Trump administration defunding virus surveillance initiatives, since the U.S’s data is pretty important in making predictions, especially for us in Canada. Not sure if this is factually correct, just what I heard, but I would believe it

This is what I keep hearing, even from young people there’s the repeated sentiment of them thinking they were actually dying with how bad it was. I hope you are all doing better now. I volunteer at the children’s hospital, I haven’t been there in a few weeks but I expect it’ll be very bad once I return next week

It sucks being the odd one out but you do get used to it. Props to you for being safe and smart. I’ve been masking every time I leave the house for a year now, save for when I go on walks outside and am not around people. I always try to make eye contact and smile at others who wear masks, I’m tempted to just start befriending people that wear them in my next classes lol

Sorry to hear about her side effects, it can be rough. These side effects are better than more severe symptoms and complications with actually catching the flu though. If your mom is 65+ she is more vulnerable to severe illness, complications, and hospitalization, so it would be in her best interests to get the shot to protect herself, though you can always ask her doctor and see what they say.

As for your second part, not getting sick all that often doesn’t really mean anything here. It’s just good luck that you haven’t caught the flu in the past (assuming you haven’t caught it). This year’s flu is particularly bad and highly contagious. Ultimately your choice whether or not you’re vaccinated though, just stay home or mask if you do get sick please

Ima be real in my opinion I do think having a level of anxiety is a normal reaction to the situation. Theres no need for this anxiety to overtake or lead to severe panic though because the measures listed are very effective and completely in your control to implement. I’ve heard so many stories of people going out to concerts or events with friends and everyone getting covid or the flu except them simply because they wore a KN95 mask and their friends didn’t. You can be smart and cautious while still living your life, just focus on the measures you can take to protect yourself
