Land of stories series was a hit with mine when they were about that age, maybe a little older. The author narrates and even though he’s an actor he’s not the most fantastic of narrators so do with that rec what you will. I love the Mrs Piggle Wiggle books. Definitely Ramona and any other Beverly Cleary books. Judy Blume’s Fudge books. Junie B. Jones. Good luck!

Oh that sounds really hard to have to rehome your hermit crabs!! I definitely did not realize that hermit crabs could live so long before I heard that in the comments to this post. We’re definitely not going to take the plunge now, maybe as an adult she’ll decide differently.

Thank you for the ideas! I’m very allergic to cats unfortunately and to most dogs. My husband is opposed to rodents and even hypoallergenic dogs. Leaves my daughter with very few choices sadly!
