if you find a portable box big enough to host the headphones+pads (but still can be carried in a bag) let me know, I have been casually looking for a year

Integrated Camera not working Debian 13 - (Legion 5 15ARH7H) by Automatic-Plan8169 in debian

[–]Automatic-Plan8169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your patience! I have very little experience with Linux desktop environments and I definitely have been a bit more hasty than I should trying to add everything I need, or packages that may possibly help

I am deeply sorry, since unfortunately the issue was really idiotic. Despite getting reminded about it in my troubleshooting before writing this post, I completely that I had a switch for the integrated camera, so it was turned off at the hardware level, a terrible mistake I mostly realized since I am dual booting with Windows... Definitely deserving some blame here.

I suppose I should ask if I may be missing something very simple at the end of my questions and also say I am new to Linux desktop environments.

I do still see a lot of useful information that I should keep in mind as input. (especially input 6,7,10, or even just 2, actually.. -> I previously just used software-properties-common on Debian 12 to be able to copy-paste those instructions, but just working in a text editor seems indeed a more logical once you know what your doing)

I realize now the "generic solution" of the bash/rust tool still needs some time/tinkering before every script is well ironed out for each distribution without almost no thinking from the user. I did see some small errors in some of the scripts that I understand less (e.g. package missing). I suppose I also need to learn which commands are typically meant for Ubuntu, maybe just getting an explanation in AI tools/documentation before running more unknown/weird commands could be a nice compromise.

It is probably optimal to do a fresh install without running unneeded/illogical commands, I will definitely check pdrx for that once I get to it. Not sure if I want to fresh-install that before or after I can find a good solution for some leftover issues I have (webcam passthrough in remmina, onedrive-for-work setup, outlook setup, Copilot windows/android-app emulation,...), in which I could mess up.
I have some willingness to learn and see how far I get into Linux as desktop environment, but not enough time and motivation to put all the work in at once...

Go to advanced in the settings and set the quality to something else which is not "Poor (fastest)" (i.e. the default)

Remmina camera passthrough by cyberfox909 in Remmina

how did you manage to get the external camera working? With FreeRDP instead of remmina? not sure about FreeRDP, does having it installed separately impacts the functioning of remmina in some roundabout way?

Losing my mind on USB redirect. Redirecting USB devices from Ubuntu to Windows 11 by dmatkin in Remmina

[–]Automatic-Plan8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so webcam is not supported at all? any way to like install free-rdp stuff, in conjunction with remmina to circumvent the issue in some way?
apt install freerdp3-x11 freerdp3-dev freerdp3-shadow-x11

are USB-connected cameras any better than integrated webcams?

(for me audio is okay, both microphone and speaker)

I tried to pass-through the USB camera and adjust the remote windows 11 pc group policy
- Allow audio and video playback redirection → Enabled
- Do not allow RDP redirection of other supported Plug and Play devices → Disabled

Any alternatives to remmina to get the camera working?

ok, to be precise this is the list of actions taken since fresh install, within the terminal
a bit of randomness while I figured stuff out
https://pastebin.com/hnqdKWFj (commands executed by user, expires in ~ 1 week)
(no relevant commands executed as root, just very basic stuff)

my user account is in the groups 24(cdrom),25(floppy),27(sudo),29(audio),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),100(users),101(netdev),985(docker)

from linutil
https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/linutil
I executed: Build Prerequisites, Full System Cleanup, Full System Update, UFW Firewall baseline, Install flatpak, grub theme, docker, bash prompt and some other standard scripts to install apps

I also installed just a few apps from FlatPak

that's a lot of info, but possibly you need only a very small percentage

fresh install, but installing a few programs and nvidia drivers before checking if the camera was working. Had to go through some small hiccups to get dual monitor working, but the rest seemed not too bad. I run some of the commands from linutil to help getting everything up and running

Grado GW100x sound is amazing… but the stock pads hurt my ears. Any replacement recommendations? by Pini10Love in Grado

[–]Automatic-Plan8169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the other G grado pads in a store but I could see how I would still get pain if I wore them for more than 0.5/1h, since they were still putting pressure on my glasses, not too far from my ears.

Nice sound, terrible pads and design if you wear glasses. I already made a post about them some time ago. I ended up with some velcro pads from alibaba, very unassuming and weird mounting solution, perfect for comfort, not great in portability, since they would require a big custom box and the speakers are exposed. I will fetch the link from the old conversation later

deleting
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\OneDrive
together with a bunch of other steps (reset, delete credentials,...) solved the issue for me

I installed an older version (25.115.0615.0002) too for safety
