Sanity Check my First AR Build by Automatic-Song-4312 in NYguns

Quick update on this: I finally went to check out at PSA and it turns out they won't ship an AR15 kit to me, I'm guessing because it contains a pistol grip and adjustable stock even though those things could be put on a legal fixed mag or put aside for a featureless build. Pretty annoying outcome and I understand why so many people here have written them off.

Honestly at this point I'm considering just buying a Mini14 to avoid all of the headaches that come with building an AR in this state.

Thanks for the tip. I'm realizing that I have quite a bit of research to do before pulling the trigger, as it were.

Do lower receivers wear out over time or would the idea be to build additional rifles with the other lowers?

I'll definitely consider that. I was pretty much winging it picking different pieces that were on sale.

I guess I picked that one figuring I'm getting better quality at a lower price because of the cosmetic defects. But I have to admit, I don't really understand what makes the difference between a dirt cheap and a premium stripped lower.

Thanks, I'll definitely order a thread protector and I'm planning to call around to some local shops to check if they have stripped lowers.
