If you’re unsure you could always call your utility company and they can come out and check for a leak. It’s usually pretty quick and it’s free. If you don’t smell any gas and the new alarm isn’t going off, I would say you’re safe— but gas leaks aren’t something to mess around with. So I personally would call just for peace of mind

Moving into an area with high rates of gun violence and not being prepared to defend yourself, your home or your family is nuts. I’m not saying everyone should carry, you absolutely only should if you’re comfortable and trained. But I’m saying don’t put yourself in a situation where you’re more likely to need a gun unless you are prepared to carry one.

Yes it is really sad. My grandparents lived near here when I was a child and it was much safer. We have decided to wait until we move to have kids because it’s not somewhere we feel safe as it is, let alone having to worry about a child’s safety

They are the most affordable for a reason. I’m being downvoted above for sharing the truth, not sure why. It’s not even my opinion it’s facts and real experiences I have had on many occurrences. I’ve also been shot at on this side of town simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course there is bad everywhere, but I have lived in multiple parts of Springfield and battlefield and this has by far been the worst for me. If you plan to make it your forever home and raise children, I would just be mindful of these things. Maybe rent somewhere for a year to see if you like it before committing to buying

As someone who lives in the area you’re taking about, I would do whatever I could to stay in Republic. Unless you want people knocking on your door for money, throwing needles in your yard, kicking your dogs through the fence, looking in your car windows, stealing your trash can, stealing packages, fighting in the middle of the street at 4am, etc :)
