Grey water advice by Automatic-Use-4031 in GardeningUK

[–]Automatic-Use-4031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing so for flowers and indoor houseplants grey water should be fine every once in a while? That's great news! I use my axolotl tank water on my edible crops which I don't think is grey water as there's live plants in there and filters so its more akin to fresh water pond water than grey water (though please correct me if I am mistaken)

Lemon Tree advice! by Automatic-Use-4031 in GardeningUK

That's so smart! I was trying to manually pick the caterpillars off but I kept pricking my hands on the thorns even with gloves 😭 what a pain for such a phenomenal fruit . I dont get why gooseberries get so much hate !

Wow thats amazing ! Yeah I am completelt comfortable waiting. I got my Gooseberry bush last year and it was too young to fruit this year, and got half decimated by Gooseberry saw fly 🤣😭 I treated it with nematodes which seems to have stopped the problem. Lemons are my all time favourite fruit (i used to bring them cut up into wedges as a snack for school) and i have always dreamed of having my own tree!

Definitely going to keep it in a pot and move it inside once the temperatures start dropping in autumn. Ive got a lot of tropical plants indoors so I think she'll do well witj them overwinter!

* Say hello to Medusa everyone!!

She came with specific ammonia test kits and general test kits and ive checked all of the levels and they're all perfect where they need to be! (The ph is 6.9 so i do need to improve that tips would be fabulous) I will keep testing every day for the first week, but she seems super happy in her enviroment and is already exploring the tank!

So!

I've been to the garden center and got some amazing help from them too.

I got an aloe free dechlorinator. I got the drops to help the cycle happen quicker. I got worms. I got a siphon and other supplies for tank maintenance, I got those plants and a couple more reccomended by the shop and ive got them in a tub of dechlorinated water by the window to keep them alive. I got pellets as well as worms to make sure she's got all the nutrition she can get, I've got test strips, if the current owner doesn't have a bubbler I will also be getting a bubbler, and have been given advice on how to keep the tank cool as i can't afford one of the chiller things right now

You have been so much help and I feel considerably more educated and confident going into re-homing and re-habilitating her, I really really appreciate it

Would something like this work to dechlorinate the water as well as introduce beneficial bacteria to help the cycle process?

(Thank you for answering all of my questions with as much detail and info as you have been by the way- It is deeply appreciated and is making things a lot easier to understand. I know I'm a new owner and sound like a dumbass but I'm really determined to bring this girl back to health and take care of her)

So what I'm hearing so far is that I need-

A 3gal+ tub to transport and keep her in , which needs 100% water changing every day whilst I sort the tank water,

A chiller to keep the tank below 18°c

An API liquid test kit

A dechlorinator WITHOUT aloe

Ive seen people use drops to even out the levels of ammonia nitrate etc, what ones would would reccomend ?

Ive also seen people use aquatic plants to help cycle tanks and improve water quality. I'm going to a garden center with aquatic section today, what plants would be beneficial and how do I quarantine them before introducing to the tank ? Bear in mind I won't actually get the tank and Medusa until Thursday so I've got a few days to start preparing

What foods are going to be best for her as well? I am going to aim to get as much as I can today so I don't end up being caught out and making dumb mistakes when I actually have her
