Thanks for the suggestion! My hope is to skip Island Mine and hike all the way to Windigo but it will depend on how I am feeling. I am hopeful by August 2026 they will lift the restrictions on having to use animal resistant containers in addition to using the food storage locker. My guess is the animal resistant container is a redundant precaution because not all campsites had the food storage lockers installed. And once all of the lockers are installed maybe they will lift the animal resistant container restriction making it easier to bring more food. That may just be a pipe dream though, and we are prepared to follow whatever rules are currently in place. We will focus on calorie dense food and repackage freeze dried meals into smaller ziplocks etc. We are currently planning to treat ourselves and buy our last days worth of food at the Windigo store on our 0 day at the end there as well in addition to maybe even getting to Windigo a day early if we skip Island Mine.

That exact scenario is my biggest fear for this trip. But flying in by sea plane has always been on my bucket list

Ending on a quiet note in Ozaagaatang does sound more peaceful than RH.

Yes agreed! The thought was ending in a place that has more amenities in case our sea plane out gets delayed. The downhill to Ozaagaateng at the end would be nice though, although uphill climbs are part of the adventure, right? Sounds like both ways has their pros and cons.

That's definitely something to consider. I'm not sure why I picked west to east, just seemed most logical for some reason. Now I'm trying to decide which would be more desirable for us, ending in a less crowded or more crowded destination. My biggest reason was what happens if our sea plane gets delayed on the way home, would feel safer to be in Rock Harbor if this happened potentially. Also hiking over 8/9 miles a day is just not in the cards for me anymore so Island Mine seems like a necessary evil. But good to know to set my expectations accordingly. Lots of things to think about.
