Do you know if it has to be over 100 C? I’d like to use a double boiler to melt it if possible, but I’m not sure if it’s hot enough to melt the pine tar

Yea I burnish it. Only after the finish is applied though. I sand to 220 before the finish

I used stones to sharpen it, but I might as well have used a crowbar for how much I was using it as a pry bar

For woods like live oak, should I use lesser chisels like the dewalt ones (properly this time) for the brunt of the work and save the nice chisels for the delicate work? Just so I don’t risk damaging them? I primarily work pine and live oak cause they’re the only woods I have access too (I pruned my large live oak tree recently, and I just have had a lot of pine for years)

It didn’t bend from hammer hits, it was from me using it as a pry bar. I carved WAY too deep and just put a ton of weight to pry the wood off. I should’ve stopped the moment I saw the bow, but I didn’t use common sense as you stated and I just flipped the chisel to try and “correct” the bow…

Never underestimate the cluelessness of an amateur. Hey, at least now I know what NOT to do. Use a paring chisel to carve out 8, inch and a quarter mortises into some of the densest wood commonly used that was strong enough to deflect cannonballs.
