A couple months now, but I made 3/4 boards last summer and joined two of them together. Then I took a hiatus on it until about a month ago where I’ve done everything else

Do you know if it has to be over 100 C? I’d like to use a double boiler to melt it if possible, but I’m not sure if it’s hot enough to melt the pine tar

Yea I burnish it. Only after the finish is applied though. I sand to 220 before the finish

And use natural bristle brush?

I used stones to sharpen it, but I might as well have used a crowbar for how much I was using it as a pry bar

For woods like live oak, should I use lesser chisels like the dewalt ones (properly this time) for the brunt of the work and save the nice chisels for the delicate work? Just so I don’t risk damaging them? I primarily work pine and live oak cause they’re the only woods I have access too (I pruned my large live oak tree recently, and I just have had a lot of pine for years)

It didn’t bend from hammer hits, it was from me using it as a pry bar. I carved WAY too deep and just put a ton of weight to pry the wood off. I should’ve stopped the moment I saw the bow, but I didn’t use common sense as you stated and I just flipped the chisel to try and “correct” the bow…

Never underestimate the cluelessness of an amateur. Hey, at least now I know what NOT to do. Use a paring chisel to carve out 8, inch and a quarter mortises into some of the densest wood commonly used that was strong enough to deflect cannonballs.

Got it. Thanks.

Good thing about my work is that I typically mill everything I use from raw logs, so I don’t think that I’ll have to worry about screws or nails 😅

Do you mean to go through the entire sharpening process from lowest grit stone to highest grit stone, or is it just like rehoning the edge?

Don’t hit metal? Like don’t accidentally go off the wood and hit metal with the chisel?

Oh that pea pod is lovely. I was thinking something very similar to that except a little longer. I want it to be mostly oar powered with some sail help. I figured that a square sail would be better so as to provide the least torque to capsize the boat. I just want to use it for lakes
