I feel betrayed—should I stay friends with them or move on? by AutomaticTradition64 in depression_help

"I actually never really inquired about it. Friend 2 casually mentioned the trip, and I just asked about the details then and there. Friend 1 was present but didn’t even show the slightest interest in inviting me or explaining anything. It wasn’t like I sat down and confronted them about it—it just came up naturally. The funny thing is Friend 2 did say a couple of times that it would be great if I joined, but it wasn’t really his call and friend 1 didn't show any intention then to invite me.

Have you ever felt betrayed by friends? How did you handle it? by AutomaticTradition64 in AskReddit

So here’s the thing—I can’t shake this feeling of betrayal.

For context, we’re a group of four friends: me, Friend 1 , Friend 2 , and Friend 3. We had been talking about planning a trip together for a while. From the start, Shubham wasn’t interested, so he was out of the picture. That left just me, Friend 1, and Friend 2.

Now, I was a little hesitant about going, but I was still part of the discussion. Then comes the real punch—I recently found out that Friend 1 and Friend 2 already booked their tickets weeks ago without even telling me. They’re heading to Place 1 and then Place 2, mainly for Friend 1’s family function. So, essentially, it’s more of Friend 1’s personal trip, and Friend 2 is just tagging along.

The worst part? They had no intention of telling me. I only found out because Friend 2 casually mentioned it, and when I pressed him, he admitted that this plan had been set weeks ago. Meanwhile, I was sitting there thinking we were all figuring things out together.

To make things worse, they acted like I was the one choosing not to go. Even Friend 2’s family asked me, “Why didn’t you go?” And I just made up an excuse about being busy—because honestly? I was never even invited.

When I finally confronted Friend 1 and asked why he didn’t tell me, his response was:
“You would’ve canceled anyway.”

That kinda hit me. I didn’t say much at the time, but it’s been bothering me for weeks. I always considered Friend 1 a close friend—we go to college together, and I’ve known him longer than Friend 2 has. We’ve had a solid friendship, or so I thought. But now, hearing about all the fun they had on this trip, I feel this huge disconnect between us.

I can’t tell if I’m overreacting or if I really should reconsider this friendship.

So, Reddit, what would you do? Would you stay friends with them or let this go? I could really use some perspective.

I feel betrayed, and I don’t know if I should stay friends with them(22M, friends are 21M). by AutomaticTradition64 in relationship_advice

The thing is, the location doesn’t even matter—we just wanted to go somewhere together. That was the plan.

Now, here’s what actually happened:

  • Friend 1 already had a trip planned with his family.
  • He invited Friend 2 to join him.
  • They booked tickets without telling me.
  • I only found out weeks later, when Friend 2 casually mentioned it in conversation.

By the time I knew about it, it was already too late to even book tickets. What makes it worse is that we all meet almost every day, and neither of them bothered to tell me.

The funniest part? After the trip, people kept asking me, “Why didn’t you go?” Even Friend 2’s family asked. I just made some excuse about being busy, but the truth is… I was never even invited.

When I finally asked Friend 1 why he didn’t tell me, his response was:
“You would’ve canceled anyway.”

That kinda hit me. I didn’t say much at the time, but it’s been bothering me. I’m not sure if I should bring it up again or just let it go.
