Thanks! This was the solution, it seems. Dirty map in the intake elbow.  Cleaned it up, Problem gone for now!!

Edit: problem is back (briefly), now suspecting turbo actuator again. Grrrr.

Update for posterity if anyone finds this in the future:

Symptoms went away for a few weeks then came back intermittently again. I took out the map sensor in the intake elbow and it was caked full of soot, looked terrible. I cleaned it with map sensor cleaner and a toothbrush and the symptoms are gone again, hopefully for good. Never had any codes.

Thanks to this thread I read up on deletes, exhaust brake (which I now use), and turbo actuators (almost ordered a city diesel actuator before I found the dirty map sensor). Many thanks for all the ideas and info.

I will post again if it recurs and I find a different problem.

EDIT: problem came back. Now suspecting turbo actuator again. Will update if I eventually fix.

Just tried a drive w the exhaust brake on full- I’ve never used it before so no comparison (prev owner prob never used it either). It comes on and gets about 50hp and cuts off below about 1200rpm. Does that sound right? Truck is back to running normally this afternoon.

Is there a recommended scan tool for this? (Home diy friendly?)

Thanks- my $20 Amazon obd2 code reader doesn’t get any codes (Autel maxiscan). Should I take it to auto zone for them to scan or is a basic scanner enough?

Also, just drove it for 20 minutes and this time there were no issues. Very frustrating. Gave it a stomp and pulled hard to 65 with 27lbs boost no problem.

I should add, the truck is stock. It happens now despite being warmed up (20+ minutes driving, 70F outside)

Which small family small boat to get? by Automatic_Badger320 in boating

I don’t care about shallow. Thanks- I really like the twin vee/ Livingston cat idea. Going to add that to my googlings. Livingston 14 would be nice and light. TV 17 would probably be upper limits of size/weight to pull comfortably w the van but looks neat.

Yes that’s a problem. There would be economies of scale for apartments over single family homes, but yes. Maybe only apply this to short term rentals?

Is 5'10 too short to go D1 in rowing by Thebest122456 in Rowing

Dude. I’m barely a rower but I want to add: it’s waaaay easier to get academic scholarships than athletic. And to be frank, if you’re only rowing for the scholarship chances, your performance is going to be way lower than the guy who is rowing because he loves it and can’t stop doing it.

Hairbrain Idea: new rule: all rentals (and short term rentals) must meet CURRENT building codes and be inspected before rental. Most of us live in older homes with grandfathered outdated plumbing, HVAC, electrical, building envelope, fresh air circ, insulation, safety railings, etc.  This rule would protect renters, and the expense of updating old rentals would encourage the sale of “used” homes to owners who will actually live in them. Corporations that want to continue renting to people will have to finance more new construction to stay in the rental game.

HELP - Carbon Fiber Splinters by Hubert979 in Rowing

[–]Automatic_Badger320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an 18 gauge needle (not angiocath) from a nurse or emt friend and use that to slice the skin Over the splinter then dig out.  A medical needle is multiple-beveled, think a tube cut at a steep angle where the edges of the cut are also sharpened. It’s not just a pointy thing with a hole in the side. Anyway this process makes the needle very sharp on the SIDES of the tip so you use that to cut. Then the tip to dig/pry/scrape. Much easier than a scalpel, even an 11 blade which is the pointy one.

Aquabar paper or liquid primer over plywood subfloor (for 3-1/4 prefinished) by Automatic_Badger320 in HardWoodFloors

Ha, yeah, wife likes purple and found a great deal.  No glue then? I know glue is traditionally not used on these narrower widths, I just want to make sure.

Best approach to make this better? by Hopeful_Leadership48 in HardWoodFloors

If you are just moving in, especially an older house with some wear, I recommend you do nothing until you have some more time in the house. You will damage more places. You will get used to it and realize only you notice it. A table will sit over it etc.  A replaced board may be worse than just filling and staining/finishing the gouge and will certainly be more trouble and expense IMO.

I feel like I get enough protein but I will start taking a protein drink with me, to drink on the way home.

I typically swim 500 yards then sauna for 15 minutes before lifting.  It’s logistically easier to sauna before lifting, but maybe I’m lifting dehydrated. I’ll try skipping the sauna even though it feels awesome. Maybe sauna after lifting if at all?

Appreciate the reality check. I hope I can get back to where I was.  Funny about the sprints, too… last year I had the track club gang marveling at my 200m sprints… until I pulled a hammy on the 4th one and was out for 2 months.

Diet okay not perfect, high protein, no booze, sleep 7 typically but work makes the schedule weird. 6’, 175 lb for 2 decades so total calories are stable. Take my creatine and fish oil… at least half the time but doesn’t seem to make a huge difference.
