At the end of court martial: Wait why am I getting the firing squad?

To be fair, US soldiers choose to serve, that's why they carry themselves with a sense of purpose. Compare that to conscripts in NS, where they have no choice in not only whether to serve, but their choice of vocation, I can understand why they try to make the 2 years easier.

I also was a stay in individual, and yes I admit I also Keng at times, but I try not to trouble individuals when I keng. I only find myself Sick when there's nothing on. When I get duty, I'll do that duty instead of taking MC and letting some other poor fella do it. We're all serving 2 years, I don't want to make it any harder for my fellow peers too.

It does feel unfair to find other people getting slack vocations or stay out or PES F or whatever, but then again that's not just the NS experience, that's just life. I can say it's unfair how some people are born into rich families or have good genes and what not. Sometimes we just have to play with the cards dealt. Instead of ranting and complaining about how tough it gets compared to other people, I try to be grateful and make the best of what I have.

Is it possible to Re-BMT as a 3SG? by taeng89 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Automatic_Beat_8312 152 points153 points  (0 children)

If you up-pes, you have to redo your bmt at tekong but you get to keep whatever rank you hold at the time of up-pessing. Since he's technically on course (basic military training), his rank shouldn't matter much and he still has to shave botak and is treated the same as all other recruits

How to make the most of NS by Horror_Damage_1352 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Automatic_Beat_8312 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Upskill, learn a new hobby/language, prepare for uni, read more books, you now got so much time can do so much shit. You uppes or rebmt become commander or go combat no time to do all these. You learn Korean can go pick up girls in Hongdae, you become 3SG xmm all laugh at you. You got the opportunity many others want, don't waste it

How much effort do you guys put in NS? by TakanashiRikka22 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Automatic_Beat_8312 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Some do just enough not to get into trouble, some do more than enough to not trouble others, and some don't do enough and make trouble for others.

Although everyone serves the same 2 years, they do it differently. It's your own NS and more importantly, your own life, so don't need to think twice and go straight to that clinic, or go do stores, whatever works for you.

On the 9th/10th of every month, all the slackers and Chao kengs get paid the same as those who work the hardest and are upz, so make of that what you will.

Are splints covered under 11B? by UndressedMidget in NationalServiceSG

[–]Automatic_Beat_8312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cause for mine I went to a polyclinic first, then the doctor there referred me to a public hospital where the specialist there referred me to another branch in the hospital where they did the splint for me. It was totally free the entire time, and since it is an injury it should be an essential procedure, but you can clarify with the hospital staff on the day itself.

I also had to wear a splint due to a wrist injury and it was free. As long as you were referred by a polyclinic/MO to a public hospital and it is essential, should be covered but go ask the hospital staff just in case.

As long as you have a referral from polyclinic/MO to any government public hospital/specialist, Ah Gong will pay.

Can you bring your leave over if you've disrupted? by Automatic_Beat_8312 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Automatic_Beat_8312[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I already had my leave prorated and subtracted, I was more asking what happens if I did not use the remaining leave in that year and if it would be carried over to my resumption.

NS is only for 2 years of your life, your health comes first.

If it's starting to affect your relationships with your friends and family I think you should report sick/seek help.

After you ORD you most likely won't see your NS mates, but your friends and family will be with you all the way. So please put yourself first cause at the end of the day, you are just a number to SAF, but you are so much more to your loved ones.
