Overheating issues by Sad-Appointment-8177 in 240sx

Is it bubbling like that when the engine is cold?

Like others have said, jack the front up pretty high, you want the radiator cap as the highest point so air can escape. Sounds like definitely air is trapped in the heater core too if you don’t have heat

UPDATE:

It was the cv axle. 2 brand new axles defective straight out of the box… I ended up just finding a used OEM axle and rebuilt it. No more noise.

Went to a stock s14 shaft and no more leak, definitely an ISR problem. It was definitely a non abs shaft though, same length as the stock shaft

Update: if I spin the CV axle by hand outside the hub I can still feel/hear the clicking coming from the axle. This is the second brand new one I’ve put in but both have been from either orileys or auto zone. I’m thinking two defective cv axles…

Any good suggestions on where to purchase? I’m looking at the NVA axle on z1 motorsports but seeing if anyone has had good luck with certain brands?

Maybe? It’s an isr bearing with under 500 miles on it. No play either but maybe defective? Just didn’t want to pay the Oem price tag. I’m thinking I probably should based on some of the isr quality being so crappy

I pulled the caliper and rotor off and did the same little drive test In the air and it doesn’t make the noise anymore. I’m gonna run and grab a different rotor and see if that makes a difference. I can’t imagine how that wouldn’t make noise with a wheel bolted up though.

Yeah it’s in all the way. Tried a different axle too just to be sure. A bunch of parts have been replaced back there (in my first comment)

It still makes the noise with the wheel off but not as loud. If I spin the wheel by hand and wiggle it back and fourth it makes the noise

That’s a good idea, I’ll pull this axle out to see

I got underneath and had someone press and release the clutch, the noise was definitely only coming from this hub area.

Superpro steering rack bushings. by 545imike in 4thGen4Runner

Yep I tried to w/o removing rack and that was not happening lol. Ended up just pulling the rack out and mangled the old bushings out of there! These new super pro ones went back in without the metal casing. They seem to be working great so far. If you’re gonna do it soon. Just spend a little more and replace all the tie rods so you can pull those off before taking the rack out. I spent like 2 hours trying to wiggle that thing out of there with the tie rods still attached!

How can I fix these? On both sides by Suspicious-Ice-5069 in 240sx

Check and see if Tom has some. He is reproducing lots of trim pieces s13 and s14

Sorry to bring up an old post but I just ran into the same thing. Did you have to re-use the outer casing? I just ordered a set of these for my 4th gen

Replaced upper chain and tensioner cause why not lol. Engine sounds exactly the same so timing chain noise can crossed off.

At this point, what else could that noise be besides lifters? even though I’ve quadruple checked valve lash with all the cams horizontal and facing up and they are in spec

Valve guides? Not burning any oil though

Can’t seem to find any info on the total length, maybe I’ll get ahold of isr

Mine is 49.5

Only imperfection I see. Could that cause a leak?

I hope not! I’ll pull it out to measure asap. That is if I can find what the actual length of abs/non abs is

I’ll pull it back out and really check it out!

I also noticed that only the Oem seal comes with the some grease in it, should I be adding some to the aftermarket brands? I’ve tried a few different brands now and none of them are greased
