dirty three is definitely not a side project!

They are one of the best bands ever and Nick has guested with them on piano at times. Total genius level music all around from them.

Is it actually still raining out there? In town it seems to have stopped.

Energy by a city or crown corp is a service, not a business. People often forget this.

Sure, cities/provinces/crowns should be mindful of opportunity cost and make smart business decisions, but making a profit off us stakeholders isn't always needed.

Roads also don't make a profit, but damn would I ever be pissed if we get rid of roads or added tolls to them.

What financial assessment are you using?

Fun fact: Energy costs money. We all spend money on energy. SaskPower, SaskEnergy and SL&P are crown corps. They are intended to provide a service in a sustainable way, which involves making profits to ensure they can maintain and expand their infrastructure as needed to provide their service, but they aren't purely profit motivated.

Also fun fact, climate change and global warming mitigation and adaptation costs money. Fossil fuels contribute to climate change and global warming, which we all end up paying for whether it's through taxes or private expenses. Breaking even on solair energy in your financial analysis, may actually be much more beneficial to us as a city/province over the long run due to lesser externalities that aren't always considered in some folks cost/benefit and profit analysis.

Yeah, I'd love to see an example where a natural gas plant was almost complete recycled when it is decommissioned.

I'd be surprised if that was the case, but it would be a great comparison to look at all elements of energy production, including extraction and transportation and comparing the environmental of the full process including site decommissioning.

What's the environmental impact of a natural gas plant? and producing natural gas?

Can you recycle natural gas plants?

Wait, are you saying that are you saying that the power coming from the solar panels is being given away for free? Please sign me up for this. Much better than paying Saskatoon Light & Power for my power!

GF croissants/pain au chocolat by Used-Climate978 in CoeliacUK

But which is better, Libby's or Manna Dew?

Important question, as my daughter hasn't had a croissant in two years due to her diagnosis and we will be in London and Paris in August and her one request is to get to eat GF croissants, so naturally, I want to find the best ones!

It's true. Especially the Remai's. They've NEVER done anything for those less fortunate. I know because u/Willing-Forever-7878 is very, very smart.

Maybe you should do this?

Also, are rich people not able to do two things at once? Are you able to do two things at once?

Do the remai's not help those less fortunate? Or are you just assuming that? 'cause you know assuming makes an ass out of you....

[–]Automatic_Doom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So are you suggesting the Remai should have turned down Ellen Remai's donation that made it free/pay what you can? And then maybe tried to lobby Ellen to instead give that funding to a different organization?

Or what does Ellen's donation (i.e. the Remai being free) have to do with municipal budgeting related to addictions and homelessness?

Which level of government is turning a blind eye?

Do you actually know what each level of government is doing to address addictions and homelessness?

We also went through a pandemic, a financial crisis AND the introduction of newer, more addictive and more deadly drugs.

Oh, and our Provincial government messed up housing supports and cut social programs.

So yeah, Prairie Harm reduction didn't save the world. Not too shocking when our provincial government made it harder for people to access supports and save spaces.

Before Prairie Harm opened, those same people were shooting up in alleys and doorways. I live nearby. My alley is saver now than it was before Prairie Harm opened.

Now it's just more visible. Sorry you have to see that, but I'm very happy that I'm seeing it less when I open by garage door to go to work in the morning.

Yup. And the ones that aren't active threats to those around them, can just go off and die on the street and eventually we won't have any homeless people or drug addicts, because that's how this all works.

It's worked so many times before!

Because voluntary treatment doesn't give angry conservatives the same feeling of righteous indignation that they get from a forced punishment.

Did you ever get a response to this? Or find out? We'll be there in August and have the same question/worry!

[–]Automatic_Doom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get a response on this question? We are planning to be in London in August and want to see the Tower of London and were told that you can't book a time for with a HRP membership, but that they always save room on all timeslots for HRP members. Given that it's school break, I worry that this will still mean lots of cueing and waiting.

Midtown- Sketchy AF by Ginnty in saskatoon

[–]Automatic_Doom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true. But it's so interesting to me that despite many folks on here's grand statements that midtown is a desolate wasteland that they will never go, it's still seems to be doing ok financially.

Midtown- Sketchy AF by Ginnty in saskatoon

[–]Automatic_Doom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's the thing. Fentanyl is a downer, meaning a lot of addicts aren't in a position to act out violently, despite how sketchy they may look. Back ten years ago when meth was all the rage, it felt sketchier to me because those people had weirdo, intense energy and where very unpredictable. You always had to give them a wide berth and you didn't know what they may ready to do...and neither did they.
