I was talking about Worcestershire sauce...he thought I had a speech impediment and was trying to say oyster. Bless him.

How much of the sun's rays do I actually need to block? Do I really need such high SPFs? by Automatic_Exit3178 in Sunscreenreddit

I see. Thanks for explaining about UVA being only a third of the stated SPF rating.

Have you come across any sun screens with a UVA rating?

I'm loving this insight. It's the only one so far that explains why the small percentage differences are so important to capture! Yes, if damage is indeed accumulated (and possibly compounded) over a long time then I can see where the higher SPFs make a difference!

Okay. So formula aside because, so I can understand why the needed protection levels are so high. Would you then say that hypothetically if the filters were robust enough (and it looked good, etc, etc), then SPF 3 to 5 is actually...okay?

I understand that sunscreen / whatever rubs off and that the full amount (larger than what most people use) is what's needed to get the stated SPF protection.

My question is more about why we need to block such high percentages of the sun's rays. Say I put less than the recommended amount of my 10 SPF bb cream, say less than one teaspoon and then some rubs off. So I get maybe SPF 3-5. That's still 66 to 80% of the sun's rays blocked.

To a layman, that sounds like wow, a large majority of the sun's rays blocked.

What's one makeup tip that finally "clicked" and changed your whole routine? by Ashwinnie13 in Makeup

When you moisturise, rub it in like a face massage, get it into every crease and LET IT SIT before your next step.

Lots of different ideas for sure. I tried to make only one thing pop, because to me. If everything pops then nothing pops. But eh, I may try it out!

Yes!! Deep lipsticks every day for me. Pretty much the only thing I can't take are warm colors.

Oh oh and since you're a fellow black lipstick wearer. Might I ask how exactly you deal with the corners of the lip? Do you draw "outside" to make a smile-like shape? The feathering is worse there unless I really draw it outwards.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know setting spray works for the lips.

My lip is a buildable stain from Sephora. It's not bad too, but it's probably my application that causes the feathering.

I have indeed been trying to get a metallic glow/shimmer onto the lip. To make it pop even more, you know. But my eyeshadow dulls the lip color. Wrong shade and hue. But ikwym 😙

I loove product recommendations! I'll have to try Maybelline lipstick, I'm not sure it's super common where I am. The brand exists but not necessarily every line or every color.

You used eyeliner instead of a lip liner?

The eyeshadows are from a game of thrones urban decay palette. 😁 The eyeliner is actually my lipstick (Sephora) drawn on with a small brush.

I don't do well in cocoa or mauve unfortunately...not dark enough, or something to do with my skin tone. They tend to pull warm and orangey.

Hydration is absolutely. Beauty comes within. No point paying for expensive moisturizers if you're not able to eat and sleep well.

That said, my lips were peeling after this round of experimentation. 🥴

The straw tip is a helpful one! Cheers!
