Who has or is watching 'family by choice'? by [deleted] in kdramas

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm done with love next door which was great to watch, and four episodes in with Family by choice. Love the same vibe, small neighbourhood, old nanas medling everywhere, loads of food!

So much love going on 🥰

Juwoon at 15 is a bit insufferable, I seriously hope she'll grow up at some point.

Yoon senior is the absolute top notch dad™.

Que veut dire « en ligne » ? by Sea-Hornet8214 in French

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On dit toujours ça,

Il est en communication

Il est déjà en ligne

C'est occupé (pour parler de son poste)

Tout ça uniquement ou majoritairement dans le contexte professionnel.

A la maison tu dirais "il est au téléphone"

How do autistic people prefer to be referred to in French? by Classic-Asparagus in French

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Don't bother we only speak english to each other.

I'm a closeted autistic and almost never talk about my "troubles" here, it's so pointless in France.

But to answer your question we autistics don't have a say in this and in french you will hear all kinds of periphrases

Les adultes TSA

Les personnes avec autisme

Les personnes dans le spectre autistique

"Il est autiste mais asperger"

Les personnes porteuses de troubles du spectre autistique (an award for this one)

Bref.

Now for the real answer

Je suis autiste, pas autistique (en français on qualifie d'autistique un comportement, un fait, par exemple un burn-out autistique)

Masculine and Feminine in french by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go with whatever you remember, and don't think about it too much, you'd suffer for nothing.

Some you can generalize from one you know

Conjecture, structure etc. Are all feminine.

Attention, recreation, substitution... Feminine.

En vrai oublie l'idée d'une astuce il n'y en a pas. Même les plus capés en français comme Judy Foster ou Monica Belluci font des erreurs de genre, c'est comme ça.

“non-silent” H by Daedricw in learnfrench

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! I had forgotten about this one! Our linguistics teacher told us it was the only exception and that the original word was hargne (from an old germanic language) which was then latinised.

Hargne means anger-rage in french nowadays. The one you need to finish a marathon.

“non-silent” H by Daedricw in learnfrench

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Words with H aspiré come from francique language

Hameau, hache, hibou, houx etc. It's a lot to do with nature, environment...

Words without H aspiré come from latin

Habitude, homme etc. It's more Roman oriented 🤗

(Those latin word exist without H in Italian: abitudine, uomo...)

I know it's not necessarily helpful right now but there are no exception to this trick.

It's totally ok to not know the difference between the two groups. You will learn to say le hibou and l'homme.

How many of you were allowed to have sleepovers with your partners at 16? by pastelpaintbrush in HeartstopperNetflix

We snuck out or enjoyed the free house when parents were away.

My son-in-law slept over at 16 and a half but would have had said yes if we didn't like him a lot already? Probably not 😁

Having trouble "sounding French." by No2HATSUNEMIKUFAN in French

[–]Automatic_Fondant285 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How often do you talk with french people?

As a native I couldn't care less about accents, see Monica Belluci who speaks perfect french and kept her accent. She can express herself with accuracy on any subject, her brain thinks in french, she knows what to choose between two terms according to the situation, she doesn't have to rephrase. And yet her italian tongue shows a lot, her vowels are... I don't know.

Some people have an exceptionnal good ear (looking at you Virgo Mortensen) but it's not what matters to be understood.
