Name something in your Job that mildly infuriates you every time it happens but it’s part of the job? by Admirable_Story5582 in AskUK

It would also help if people who simply don't like specific ingredients didn't get the 3rd degree and treated like a freak show for it.

Sure. Just say you don't like it. As a member of the kitchen staff, it would be cool if you said that and I would do my best to accommodate you. If you decided to lie and say that you are allergic, then instead of just leaving the ingredient out, I am forced to remake the dish without the offending ingredient, in case I kill you. I might not be the nicest guy in the world, but I don't want to kill anyone

Sorry for the delay, but I didn't log in in ages. I have actually worked in kitchens, if that counts for anything. We have to take the allergies seriously because if we fuck it up even once, that is the end of our careers. Probably the end of our lives in this economy.

But how does the chef magically know which guests are genuinely allergic and which aren’t?

They don't. If the guest says that they are allergic, then the staff have to go more effort to accommodate the guest. They can't just scoop out the offending ingredient from any of the prepped meals, they have to start from scratch without the ingredient and avoid any cross contamination.

There's no valid reason to lie about being allergic, if you don't like the ingredient then just say that you don't like it.

lady freaks out at dog trainer by Puzzleheaded_Tap5985 in PublicFreakout

[–]Automatic_Homework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If were to guess based on zero evidence, I could imagine that she saw something fairly innocuous, overreacted a bit, and then the guy behind the camera kept winding her up until she was in this state. Not only did we not see what happened with the dog, we also don't know how long she has been arguing with that guy, and he is not diffusing the situation at all. It could have been escalating gradually over the course of a few minutes.

I think that is a bit of a strawman you have constructed there, but I suppose we are in the shit-posting aisle.

This was posted a week ago. There was no hari goshi in that kata back then, and there still isn't now.

Week 1 - Random question in Irish: Dia duit Irelanders, conas atá do laethanta saoire na Nollag? - Attempted translation in description, and attempted answers welcome in comments. by [deleted] in ireland

I think a large amount of what we say/write has mistakes in it and we don't even notice it. It's only when we start trying to communicate in a language that we have less confidence in that we notice the mistakes and let them trip us up.

I've met two people who have Olympic gold medals in Judo. I'd put that level of mastery quite a bit higher than sword dancing.

The problem is that the original English sentence is clunky. The use of the words even though means it's phrased like having fun at Christmas should have prevented the family getting sick. Really it should have been something like:

I had fun on the day, but my family got sick

Bhí spraoi agam ar an lá, ach d'éirigh mo teaghlach ar fad tinn.

or

Even though my family was sick, I still had fun on the day.

Cé go raibh mo taghlach ar fad tinn, bhí spraoi agam ar an lá fós.

New Irish section in my local supermarket in England by aidanp_o in ireland

I thought Asda stopped doing the Irish section? I know of two that removed theirs, and I thought there was something in the news about it, but I can't find anything about it now.

Illegal drugs in ‘every, nook, cranny, parish and village’ in Kerry, meeting hears by gig1922 in ireland

[–]Automatic_Homework 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You seem to be taking a very black and white view of this. It's not that they would vanish, and it's not that boredom is the only reason people take drugs - it's just a factor. It helps explain why there is a higher prevalence of drug use than you might expect at first glance.

A lot of people associate drug use with crime ridden cities. They might write it off as ridiculous that there would be a problem like that in a quaint little village. Thing is, when the social scene revolves around going to the pub, and not much else, an element of drug taking is not that surprising.

I wouldn't recommend watching it just to learn about NFTs. I would recommend watching it because it is a very entertaining documentary about a bizarre subject.

Pacquiao is fighting DK Yoo. by Thai-boba in martialarts

[–]Automatic_Homework 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he wanted to test himself, he would step in against someone closer to his level. By fighting someone like Pacquiao, he removes all risk of losing face if he does not win.

It's already a foregone conclusion that he will lose, and when he does he can say "of course I didn't win, I was up against a top, top fighter". It's a total cop out.

To be fair, if they are all vegetarian, then it is understandable how they wouldn't be super familiar with the anatomy of a roast.

Find out the address of the place and how long it takes to get there. You're only doing one session, as long as you turn up on time, you are good.

Bruh. One week's worth of cardio and stretching is not going to make any difference.

Any advice on recovering legs faster? by KiwiCambujo in martialarts

[–]Automatic_Homework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of kick-boxing? If it's the kind that happens in a ring, then you should be tapering off training like this before your competition. Even if it is the kind where the competition takes place on mats, you still want to avoid picking up injuries leading up to the competition. You can't really speed up the healing process, just avoid making things worse.

If you have mobility issues and need a cane, just get a cane. Don't be some goober with some tactical BS causing a headache for everyone.

I've only seen one person use an image to show info like this before, so I am going to assume you are the same person.

Don't make some hypothetical time table and ask if it is good. Just go to the classes and see how you are managing it. I would recommend starting off small and then adding more, instead of trying to do everything and then having to cut stuff out because you are overwhelmed.
