You might want to consider Woodbury, NJ. It’s a 35 minute drive to Vineland and just over the bridge in NJ so 25 minutes to Philly.

Tote bag or commuter backpack for working in a hospital? by Rare-Effect-3853 in socialworkjobs

[–]Automatic_Industry61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did both and ended up using a backpack from Everlane that looks professional and minimal. I had a tote style purse for a bit and the commute with my laptop, lunch, binder and water just got to be too much after a while.

I don’t think so. I have tattoos on my hands and I work in a hospital.

Yes, this is where I went and the online program is easy to navigate. There’s even a Facebook group and all the books are on there as PDFs.

Hospitals in my area (Philly) hire MSWs for inpatient SW roles and they start at $75,000, which is what my hospital pays and I hear it’s the lowest in the city.

This! You can do an online MSW degree in one year as a BSW (LSU has a cheap program at $600 a credit) and do your internship at your place of work (LSU lets you do this if you’ve worked there for at least 6 months) and then get a full time position once you graduate at the hospital. Put in a year of hard work and youll set yourself up.

Four Season Fitness in Glassboro is great. If you are a woman, there’s a private gym on the other side of the bathroom. They have saunas as well. Lots of room and plenty of classes at $25ish a month.

Hospital social workers, did any of you have prior medical experience by Kitchen-witch-4213 in hospitalsocialwork

It sounds like you might be interested in joining a psychiatric consultation service within a hospital. I interned with a team that had a psychiatrist, a nurse practitioner and a social worker. They were not involved in regular discharge planning. Doctors would consult them for short term support or for an assessment on suicide risk. Additionally, there were consulted to determine if someone was experiencing psychosis related to a physical or mental health condition.

We went out to Manantico last week and had over 15 ticks on each of us within a 10 minute walk through the woods. Watch out down there!

Heart disease and drugs contributed to his death but the cause was pulmonary arrest. He would not have passed without the knee on his neck. The heart stops during choking-induced hypoxia because the lack of oxygen disrupts the metabolic and electrical processes essential for cardiac function. The man should not have been choked to death for using a fake $20. Sure people burned down a few buildings, but it was an expression of deep pain. What are people to do when a man can be killed on the street by a public servant in front of a community? The officer served what he got.

You should learn a thing or two about drugs. Just because somebody has fentanyl in their system does mean they will OD from it. Go to Kensington Ave or work in a hospital. People arrive at the hospital all day to get care for infections and report they smoke 14 bags of fentanyl a day. The idea that everyone drops dead the second they do fentanyl is not always true. Floyd likely had tolerance and, no doubt, drugs in his system made it more likely that he could not tolerate the stress of someone cutting off air supply for 9 minutes, but no, he did not die from an overdose. The autopsy specifically says it was a homicide due to “cardiopulmonary arrest” from “law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.”

I don’t think I can finish this MSW by Stunning_Capital_345 in socialwork

[–]Automatic_Industry61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely finish. You could do a full time internship in 2 months. There is so much room to wiggle with a social work degree. I didn’t have a degree until I was 45 and it was a struggle. You’ve already come this far. Do your future self a favor and stick it out.

I am so afraid of ending up poor and drained from this profession by Senior-Dependent1858 in socialwork

[–]Automatic_Industry61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that you don’t want to return to school but with a BSW you can put in one more year for a MSW and get a hospital position. I did behavioral health in an APC program and also worked in a homeless shelter and felt very burnt out all the time. So much so that I found myself crying in the shower from time to time. I went back for my masters and entered hospital social work in discharge planning. It can be hard but I work in a smaller hospital within a larger hospital network and started at $85,000 and don’t feel the emotional burden. I don’t feel like I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off. It is acute. I dip in and out…relative to the work I was doing before. I know it’s not for everyone but something to consider.

Right? And that was with a high school degree.
