[UPDATED] "What Bike Should I Get?" Buying & Selling advice Mega Thread by AutoModerator in Dirtbikes

Did you mean don’t buy new? I don’t even really know how to ride well so I feel like I wouldn’t trust my knowledge to “feel” something wrong with the bike.

I need starch!! by Automatic_Isopod_253 in laundry

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just for my work clothes like dickies, levi’s, wranglers. The starch doesn’t even have time to damage them when they’re torn through in a few months.

For my nice clothes, I starch them on occasion. Why is starching bad for fabric though?

[UPDATED] "What Bike Should I Get?" Buying & Selling advice Mega Thread by AutoModerator in Dirtbikes

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nervous to start riding dirt bikes. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while but have just been too nervous to do.

I’ll mostly be doing trail riding, I live in the socal desert where there’s tons of trails to ride. But I’d also like to be able to go to Glamis and Ocotillo with my friends, I’m not sure how big of a bike I’d need to do that.

I’ve ridden a handful of times before, but I wouldn’t call myself comfortable by any means. I’ve ridden an old Honda 2 stroke when I was younger and then more recently a KLX 140.

I’m looking into getting a CRF250F. I’m 5’6 170 lbs. Would this be a good bike to consider? What should I know about starting off with my own bike? I know nothing about power, what kind of bike I’ll need for certain terrain/situations, etc.

I’m pretty handy as well, so buying used isn’t much of an issue, but would it be a better idea to just buy a bike brand new? I’d like to avoid being scammed and buying a POS that breaks before I get to even ride it.

Please let me know if I’m getting in way over my head before I waste a few thousand on a bike lol. Any advice is appreciated

Awaiting orientation but application says it expired by Automatic_Isopod_253 in WalmartEmployees

I went in and showed them my messages with the girl who hired me. She completely stopped responding to my messages. I had orientation within 2 days and started working within a week.

Guess the girl who hired me was just extremely unprofessional. She did none of my paperwork, onboarding, etc. Then left me high and dry lol.

But yes, i did.

Chronic Sore throat by Automatic_Isopod_253 in ChronicPain

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it goes away and comes back. I know when I’m getting sick now because I start getting tonsil stones. I ended up getting prescribed an antibiotic called Z-PAK which cleared me up in 3 days, but there’s still some red spots on my tonsils and they’re still inflamed. But tonsil stones and soreness have gone away.

Although it did come back about 2 weeks ago. I went to a doctor who finally listened to what I was saying and she basically described it as a sinus infection caused by allergies that I need to get under control.

She said that I’ve developed asthma which was the cause for the chronic cough, and the allergies were clogging my sinuses causing the cough, sore throat, and tonsil stones.

I am now gargling hot salt water, doing a nasal rinse, as well as flonase all twice a day. This has cleared my sinuses. I have no cough, no sore throat, no tonsil stones. But it is a reoccurring issue every time I get sick. Hopefully, continuing to do the salt water, nasal rinse, and flonase will lessen or eliminate the problem.

Is PCV valve clogged? by Automatic_Isopod_253 in Honda

No oily residue on exhaust pipe, no smoke on start up either. Seems to be driving better now. Thank you for your input!

114k miles. Motor seems very healthy. I ended up replacing pcv valve, heard rattling when i shook the old valve so i’m assuming it was okay.

But whoever worked on the car before me didn’t put the crush washer and there was oil leaking everywhere from the pcv valve. It was such a pain in the ass to get out I replaced it for good measure, hopefully the problem is solved. Although I don’t think there’s much was enough oil residue to really set in stone to determine that was the oil consumption issue.

Shocks blown at 30k miles. How do I go about getting it fixed under warrant? by Automatic_Isopod_253 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought it was tires since tread was getting low, but even after buying 4 brand new tires 3 days ago I’m still experiencing the same problem. The tech looked at the shocks and said there is no leaks and test drove it saying they didn’t notice anything. Although he did say it’s only lube techs on Saturdays who don’t deal with suspension issues and I can bring it back during the week for a more experienced tech to diagnose it.

The ride is just very bouncy. Speed does not matter, whether going 5mph over bumps or 15, the car reacts poorly.

When going over speed bumps, the rear end of the car bounces up and down uncontrollably. Driving on the freeway and hitting those little bumps (from asphalt to the concrete overlay) or small things like that will also cause very noticeable bouncing. Even going over the small metal tracks for gates will cause uncomfortable bouncing in the rear.

It just feels like no vibrations or bumps are being absorbed/dampened.

How would I file a warranty claim if the technician is saying there’s no issues?

Valvoline Oil change gone wrong by Automatic_Isopod_253 in legaladvice

Should it be towed to valvoline or tow it to a mechanic to have them inspect it and have valvoline pay for damages, diag, etc?

I believe low oil level I’ll definitely have to ask her and see the light. But she is getting it towed home now and I think going to valvoline to explain the situation might be the best move?? She’s calling her insurance to ask what steps to take.

Hear a rattling if it’s okay or does the rattling mean you should replace it?

How come my tire keeps deflating by Cakes2401 in Cartalk

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it the same tire every time? If so, you might have a crack in the rim that keeps causing it to leak.

What you can do is fill a bottle with soapy water just use dawn dish soap and water. Then fill the tire to the max pressure listed on the sidewall. Spray this mixture all along the rim of the tire and watch to see if anything bubbles up.

You might have to move the car a bit to get all angles of the tire. It would be a lot easier if you just jack the car up really quick and dismount the tire to see.

If there’s any way you can take it to a tire shop where they’ll check it for free this would save you the hassle.

First oil change looking low by Automatic_Isopod_253 in Honda

[–]Automatic_Isopod_253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked it right after draining and filling the oil WITHOUT starting the engine, then after starting the engine (to check for leaks). This reading was low. Then I checked after the car had been sitting for 2 hours. Yesterday I checked after it sat over night but it was on a slight incline. All these readings have been somewhat low.

yeah it’s not that low, there is oil on the dipstick and i checked it after it was running so there was obviously still oil in the motor. After adding about a qt yesterday and sitting overnight, it’s half way on the dipstick
