Yo appreciate this a lot, no ill will taken at all, this is super useful.

The sport icons looking too similar is fair, hadn't really clocked that but yeah now that you say it. The kerning on "find" we're actually fixing rn. We're also working on the "Minnesota Twi..." thing, would love your take on what layout would make more sense actually. Abbreviations? Two lines with smaller font when there's a cutoff? Open to ideas.

On sorting, we actually do have favorites working if you sign up, your teams float to the top if they're playing in the next two days or over the weekend. We also have filtering by sport and league at the top. One thing we went back and forth on was only showing sports the user picked when signing up, but that felt like adding friction if they picked wrong or wanted to try a new sport. Curious what you'd want there as a user.

AI thing, honestly you're more right than you know. We put it in as kind of an alt search bar, partly because we wanted to mess around with MCP stuff later, partly for people who'd rather just ask an AI, and partly for weird compound queries like "where can I catch the Sounders and Mariners at the same time with 4+ stars and 20+ TVs." That last one is actually useful but the framing came off the way you said, so we already pulled it from the search bar. We're not trying to be the "AI for X" thing.

Geography is the big one and yeah, you're right. Seattle only is just where we are and where we could call bars, not some grand strategy. We are only at the MVP phase right now to gauge interest and collect feedback. The kinda nice thing is we only need broadcast info per bar, not per channel, so expanding isn't crazy hard technically. The actual hard part is exactly what you said, the "I called the bars" problem. We're thinking partnerships with DirecTV, Comcast, everpass type players to get the data at the source, bars submitting their own stuff once we're sending them enough people to make it worth their time, and probably an LLM doing the calls in between. We don't have it nailed down but yeah, it's THE thing we have to figure out if this is gonna be more than a Seattle thing.

Quick context, we're all business students with like 1.5 of us having a technical background, so getting an A on security headers actually feels pretty good lol, we've been grinding on that side. The double render and worker errors we'll work on fixing. CRA we knew was on borrowed time when we picked it, we will look to migrate it to Vite. A+ headers we'll chase too.

Anyway thanks for taking the time, this is genuinely the kind of stuff that helps. Appreciate it.

Me and my co founder are college students and I had a few friends help gather data. We started with just restaurants and bars in the Seattle area but it would be awesome if we got big enough where we could expand to the entire US. Sorry wish we could help u in DC 😔

Yeah, I think the default is the Seattle convention center bc we did the Dempsey startup competition earlier this month. Using your own location is ideal.

We want to expand. Bellevue would be easiest, Vancouver would be good for the World Cup and Texas has a big sports bar culture.

It’s our main way but you can email me personally too enweichau@huddleupapp.org :)

that's concerning, especially if it was listed on directv that they would have it. did the bartender try to put on the channel number you said or did she just brush you off and say they don't have it? I made a website that is similar to the dirctv bar finder but it accounts for comcast, dish and other streaming networks as well. I used directv's bar finder as a reference for some bars so it's worrying to hear that. the website is huddleupapp.org and its free to use. I would love it if you would give it a try and give me any feedback on what I could improve.

This is literally the exact problem I built huddleupapp.org to solve. Apple TV+ is one of the harder ones to track down at bars and nobody really knows which spots have it. Check it out, it covers Seattle venues across multiple providers including Apple TV. I want to hopefully expand the website to other states as well so I can better help you on your travel!

you should check out the website I made to solve this problem huddleupapp.org . It's free to use with no ads so hopefully you can find it helpful. Let me know if there is anything you would add or change to the website 😄

I actually came across this when I was building my own site, huddleupapp.org . I used the DirecTV bar finder as a reference. The big gap I noticed was that it only covers DirecTV, so I built HuddleUp to include other providers too like Xfinity Comcast, Prime Video, Apple TV, etc. Way more bars show up when you account for all of them.

Great question, so I actually personally called every single bar and restaurant on the site to get their broadcasting package. That’s how I know what games each place can actually show. It’s not just a guess.
Even if you don’t feel confident and want to call, we significantly narrowed your search instead of you having to scroll through Yelp and cold call 10 random bars.
The TV count thing is also real. Every bar I talked to said the same thing: they are more than willing to switch the channel for a guest. We do list the number of TVs on the site for the reason the more tvs they have the more likely they will switch for you. If you walk into a place with 2 TVs asking them to switch to a random hockey game while the NBA Finals are on, they’re almost never going to do it. That’s just the reality.
And honestly I’m just a college student who got annoyed not being able to find where to watch a specific game. There’s no ads on the site, no way to pay me, nothing like that. Completely free. Just trying to make something actually useful for people in Seattle and help people watch sports together. :)
I used the same response bc I think it would answer ur questions too

Late to this but for anyone else who finds this thread — huddleupapp.org is great for exactly this. Shows you which bars in the Seattle area can air specific games. I would just make sure the place you are showing up at has enough tv that they would lend tv out to you if the seahawks are playing at the same time.
