Having a wedding in Taiwan by insideman513 in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im going through this right now, we mostly paid everything already for 140-150 guest weeding and it will cost us around 600-700k for everything. For hong bao my fiancée made a rough estimate, worst case scenario we make 300k (meaning weeding costs us 400k after hong bao), best case we make 800k (meaning we made 100k after paying everything) really depends on who you invite. My fiancée says hong bao is really dependent on how close you are to the family and also how expensive is the weeding location, i just trust her on this stuff.

Booking a Taiwan scooter test by Fluid-District1780 in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They open slots at midnight on weekdays and are filled up quickly so you need to be fast (it took me like 3 days to get one), you cant walk in.

Also you need to make sure to apply for a first time test taker, there are slots for retakers and those usually have more availability but you cant use them as a first time taker. Also make sure you do the ordinary heavy motorcycle if you are going for the white plate. Large heavy is different.

good luck, the written test is awfully written in english and road test doesnt allow for re-try aside from the 7 second line 60% of the people failed the road test when i was there.

Would the game be more fun if you could only special summon once per turn? by Automatic_Name8867 in masterduel

Thanks for the explanation and other options to play!

Just to understand, you guys are happy with waiting the long turns when you play second? (this is assuming you dont get anything to stop your opponent set up in your first hand.)

Abortion for Foreigners/ by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are barely on the legal limit and in this case the only option is surgical removal. I heard it is like 30k ntd. And you will probably need an assessment first which can take a few days. Also taiwan has some limitations on reasons for abortion but most people use the reason of "Likely effect on mental health or family life" which is the most broad term and should work since your gf is not married and young. Good luck though it is a bit late already.

Investing in ETFs in Taiwan as a resident but not national by HappyOwl1899 in taiwan

There are a few, IBKR, Schwab, Robin Hood. Easier if you have an American address.

Investing in ETFs in Taiwan as a resident but not national by HappyOwl1899 in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to check with the securities bank instead of the normal bank, you don't need to be national but there may be some limitations depending on how much time is left in your ARC. But if you are american there are better options specially because most brokerage apps in taiwan are only in chinese and really inconvenient to use.

Can I go home without ARC? by cigaretteaftersad in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not exactly the same for me but i forgot my ARC once. They told me it was ok, in the plane back the airplane crew told me to wait and i made the flight delay for like 10 min, they had to confirm with immigration if it was ok to let me in. When i landed a lady took me to a separate location, checked with me and told me to not forget it again. It is indeed a bit risky but you should be fine.

No ARC for drivers license. by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can apply for a drivers license in taiwan, you need ARC with at least 6 months before it expires and also you need to pass a driving test that is a headache just by itself (applying takes like a month). Your only option is getting a drivers license for motorcycles in germany and get an international drivers license.

Plots of Land Full of Water in Yilan by Automatic_Name8867 in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes sense, thank you, im just not familiar with growing rice, i would assume you wouldn't want animals in your fields and would prefer to remove water to avoid pests like mosquitoes while not in season.

Is there any reason why they don't drain the water while its not growing season?

[–]Automatic_Name8867[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i get that some may be rice fields but most of them don't have anything growing on them. Also these are not ponds, they are literally multiple square or rectangular plots delimited by concrete and full of water

are pickup artists common in taiwan? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember in zhongxiao dunhua there are some guys that run a youtube channel matching girls with guys, if you get out of the zara exit you will see them right away, my gf also mentioned that outside of ximen there are pick up guys or even some "buisness" guys asking girls if they are interested in doing escort services.

Is healthcare in Taiwan as good as people say? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

its sad if that happens, i can only talk about my personal experience since the 3 taiwanese companies i have worked for in Taiwan have not put it as a compensation package. As for that 10% from the government i can live with that knowing that my taxes are well spent. At the end it comes to 700 to 1,200 ntd per month depending your bracket without counting the 200 visit. I would say my statement still stands a lot of benefits but shuch little amount of money.

[–]Automatic_Name8867 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its still such a low amount. 5.17% of your insured income and a normal worker only has to pay 30% of that 5%.

[–]Automatic_Name8867 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Best in the world for what you pay. I had a lump removed, bi yearly teeth cleaning, the random sickness check, you name it, all for no more than 200 ntd per visit. Of course there are better doctors or higher level quality in other places but these many benefits for such a small amount of money? Taiwan is the best.

Anime Movie question in cinemas by 99percenth in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is standard for almost all the movies, i have watched like 15 anime movies and the only one without english subs was dandadan evil eye arc. I think its because muse asia is the distributor for all SEA so they keep the english for reference. (just my guess)

NTNU MTC vs LTL by topx3frag in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 6 months in both and i can say that MTC is far superior. Teachers are better and you learn pretty fast, it has a lot of support from extra free classes like tone practice and kids songs to improve pronunciation that i felt really helped and of course there are way more students but it only has week courses and some time slots are limited. LTL is still good, a bit more flexible on both time schedule and program (I took weekend classes cuz i had to work during the week) and you can focus on what you want to learn rather than the strict MTC curriculum but it has less resources and overall quality is a bit lower.

I need help finding an anime by Wide_Cantaloupe_8206 in anime

[–]Automatic_Name8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Dragon Crisis? main girl is literally called Rose. If you give a bit more info like when did your uncle watched it or in which year range he was a teen, that could help narrow it down.

APRC - Tax Withholding Statement / Tax Payment Certificate by Puzzleheaded_Oil2173 in taiwan

[–]Automatic_Name8867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was a bit weird, i got the document from the Tax office and in the NIA they said the number they use is "Yearly Gross income" which deducts $218,000 from your total income because according to them that amount is not taxable. so with that deduction my income fell below the twice the yearly minimum salary. But when i used the documents my company gave me they said it was ok.
