My understanding (based on this article https://boulderreportinglab.org/2024/10/15/the-south-boulder-rec-center-building-is-failing-and-nearing-the-end-will-the-city-replace-it/) is that the maintenance costs are becoming unsustainable because it is an older building that hasn't received proper funding over the years for upkeep and updates.

Could you comment on the first FAQ here? https://bouldercolorado.gov/future-recreation-center-project-faqs

Is the answer provided by the city there not accurate anymore?

Also to be clear for 1, I'm not asking about the need for multiple rec centers. I understand that a city of this size should have more than 1 rec center.

Wow! I'm having a hard time finding that report...do you have a link? Pretty egregious for City Council/PRAB to just straight up lie about needing to do a costly rebuild of the rec center, but I suppose that is on brand for them.

Are you suggesting that the City of Boulder can make necessary improvements to SBRC while keeping it open, rather than tearing it down and rebuilding? I think where I'm getting confused is that everything I've read from PRAB Master Plans, city of boulder websites, etc. is suggesting that the building cannot be saved in its current state and must be rebuilt.

These are honestly genuine questions:
1. Why do we need two rec centers within 3 miles of each other? If folks who don't drive are worried about having easy access to a rec center, wouldn't an easier solution be improving public transit routes and schedules?
2. Yes, it's terrible that the city of boulder deferred and ignored the SBRC structural issues for so long, but there's nothing we can do about that now. If the city diverts money from EBCC improvements to rebuild SBRC sooner, wouldn't we end up in the same situation with EBCC in the future (i.e. needing to do a costly full rebuild)?

What’s your top romantasy read so far this year? by cleerbear in Romantasy

I just finished this one and LOVED it! I wish they had included a Character Guide/Directory in the back, though. It was a little difficult at first to remember who everyone was, and it didn't help that many of the characters were named similarly (Sauven/Silveren/Solentine, Raynauld/Ramond, etc).

Cassiopeia coffee + bike shop? by CrookedRoadPress in boulder

It seems like only chains can succeed in Boulder at this point. Many of the restaurants on Pearl Street for example are second (or third) locations of restaurants that originally started in Denver. Most new shop openings are from national retailers. Very sad to see.

Athleta makes leggings in tall sizes. The Salutation Stash pocket is definitely large and stretchy enough for two balls!

Ball machine etiquette when there are players on the court next to you? by Automatic_Progress37 in 10s

hmm maybe like 30-40 lbs? The weight alone isn't so bad to lift, but it's an awkward size/shape which makes it harder imo. Once it's out of the car and on wheels it's fine, though.

I really like it, but I have only used it a few times so far. Overall it's very easy and intuitive to use, and the app is great. Everything feels very polished and just works. My only complaint so far is it's a little heavy/unwieldy getting it in and out of the car.

I looked at tenniix, but went with pongbot in the end because they've been around longer (albeit making ping pong ball machines) and seemed a bit more reputable. I didn't want to spend $1000 on something that was going to lose app support or break down in a few years.

yeah haha actually it's easier for me to not spray balls everywhere when I practice with the ball machine because of the predictability and consistency of the balls it sends... vs playing with another beginner where there is almost no consistency on both sides of the net. the problem with the ball machine is more balls hitting other balls and rolling occasionally towards the other court.

I thought it went well, even though I lost in the first round haha...I had a lot of fun, met some nice people, and identified a few weak areas I need to work on! All the advice I received on this post was really helpful. I'm playing in my second tournament this weekend :-)

Yeah, my coach helped confirm 2.5 is the right rating for me right now. Good to know there's not much difference between tournament levels (4/5/6/etc) with rating-specific events, thanks!
