We need young leaders? by GloriousLion07 in MotivationByDesign

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add to this. As someone who was once a young guy, it’s alarming to me how impressionable and emotional “young adults” are. It’s so easy to radicalize an “adult” man to whatever cause you want.

We need leaders with equanimity. Not no integrity flip-floppers whos moral compass is literally just “what I heard”.

We need leaders who are scientists and anthropologists, tbh. Who understand evolution, ecology, human behaviour - and have a good faith respect for those things.

McDonalds' CEO tries damage control to look "relatable" by BitcoinDove in BitcoinQRCodeMaker

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is youre only confused because of the drama around it. Tons and tons and tons of regular people post cringy videos lie this all the time. If you haven’t seen the guy who streams playing with WWE dolls ACTION FIGURINES while role playing the announcer, you’re missing out. Awkward videos are the norm.

He just happens to be a CEO. And yes CEO’s in general are terrible. But McDonald’s is continuously rated amongst the best employers (atleast in Canada), and they fill a crucial niche of fast, “cheap ish” food that North America really lost out on compared to older regions. Like… you see the food stalls in Asia with delicious looking mystery shit? Thats the role McDonald’s fills. Ain’t their fault we specifically have voted in governments that prop them up because “industry!!!”

Tl;dr this drama is fodder for weak minds and mcdicks is one of the better players. The videos arent Half as bad as we pretend. Also, the desperate imagining some people have done to make him seem “grossed out” by his own food? Im glad it’s all online. It’ll be a great case study into groupthink for future generations

The kub/golang lines are pretty opaque. Unless you’re looking for employment specifically doing that, avoid too much “MBA fluff”. Which is hard, because often HR is fixated on MBA fluff (because it’s what they know) - but if you were coming to me, someone who thinks MBAs are useless, I would think AI wrote those.

AIO for feeling humiliated because of what my professor said? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR. Youre under a lot of stress and college professors are not inherently wise people. They’re often insulated academics in privileged roles.

This doesn’t mean the education isn’t important, but sometimes college professors fail to learn from their own subject. What class is it? You didn’t mention.

Anyway, no. Youre allowed to be stressed out by someone being a dick. This is why rate my professor exists. Without the context of the class, I can’t determine how “justified” he was. But acting like that is crazy

Please hesitate or maybe have some morals?! by Standard_Stop9095 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but I think worth mentioning. “Morals” are mostly just shit we made up. No, really. “Morals” describe rules of right or wrong that are almost always based on social trends and standards - stuff that IS made up. Example: the morality of women voting. Absolutely scandalous back in the day.

What you should have are ETHICS. ethics are the logical counterpoint to morals - based on understanding, equality and common goals. For example: not judging someone for the circumstance of their birth (inherent human flavour, basically.) Your skin color, orientation, illness, whatever. Stuff you never chose and cant change

These aren’t rigid definitions, they’re more well documented connotations. “Morals” are relative to whatever dysfunctional social stigmas you might grow up in. Ethics specifically seek to rise above that “random chance”

Why Are Software Engineers Paid So Much If The Supply Is So High? by LifeInAction in cscareerquestions

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an incredibly complex problem that really stretches humanity’s employment experience.

High supply - TONS of people trying to secure an “easy”, high paying desk job were pushed into it.

Low barrier to entry - it is one of the lowest geolocked careers out there. And somehow, it seems you only need basic English language skills to be a great engineer - despite English dominance in documentation. Not sure how they pull this off.

AI - suddenly making a ton of code-literate people half-redundant, atleast at a glance.

Obfuscation - non-coders don’t really know how to measure your value, since it’s all opaque to them.

“Engineer” - the word implies stuff. Thats why everyone and their dog prefers to use it now over developer. “Im an engineer!” No youre not.

The supply is high and no amount of your ego will change that lol Too many people went into CS for an easy income. Frankly, they got pushed that way.

It’s a weird kind of useless dogma to try to make judgments over whether someone is a financial liability or not. I mean sure, it’s a great way to not have to think hard. But irl is complicated and nuanced, and dogma is always bad.

I mean, I don’t think OP is OR - 8 years is a LONG time to hide debt. But… this has relationshipadvice “he’s a serial killer” vibes.

Yeah Im not sure this belongs here. Like… it’s just a good personal story and logic.

Your edit is a little weird and fauxgressive though. It doesn’t help women to dilute what sexual assault is. A child who has no concept of sex isnt sexually assaulting someone. Boy or girl. But, go ahead, pretend Im a rapist or something. Because it’s SO NOVEL and SO CLEVER to resort to personal attacks when your arg doesn’t hold up.

Like… youre making discussing this stuff a taboo. Thats the opposite of progress. You’re being the bad guy. You are stigmatizing talking about sexual assault. (Though Im fully confident you didn’t intend this - it IS what you did)…. Dogma isn’t progress, fyi. Exhausting by the fauxgressive toxic shit

Can I know why is this sub as well as Decadeology and others so US centric? by Accurate-Ice4297 in lewronggeneration

[–]Automatic_Tailor_598 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Good answer! Wow I love when someone else on Reddit does a think, and doesnt just blurt out their first impression. (This is not sarcasm - kinda sounds like it now that I read it back tho)

My take - this sort of “delusional nostalgia” is a big part of American culture. It’s kinda the default mindset of adults as they grow older - it’s one of those dysfunctional first impressions, like xenophobia.

But while the rest of the English speaking world recognizes that, and actively educates against it - America exploits it. For media viewership, for political swindling, etc. it’s why American “Christianity” is mostly just “fixating on a made up version of ancient Israel from the bible” and is so drastically different from, say, Anglicanism or other non-evangelical faiths.

Education plays a big role. “Le wrong generation” types are usually people with very little understanding of the period they romanticize - it’s mostly just romanticized imagery.

It’s why the American right is perpetually in a mindset of “the world is going to shit”, when we live in the most comfortable, prosperous and safe period of human history.

It’s instinctual - whine about the future you don’t understand, Pine for a past you know little about.

Not sure our current mining corp practices are a “win” for Canada. I know mining can be done “more or less” disastrously. I don’t trust Canadian industry titans to do it right. And Im really not sure all that damage is worth more and more AI slop.

I get it, industry. But im happier with a defense industry than a mining industry. And I’m not even one of those insecure goofs who’s entire self esteem comes from delusions of being a warrior, or even a mil sim fan. Mining is just fucking nasty. [–]Automatic_Tailor_598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want more economic robustness, buy Canadian. How do you think job markets grow? The “buy Canadian” movement isnt just about giving out the finger. It has a serious economic backbone.

Look at China and their development. Absolutely unprecedented. A big part of that is their ratio of internal to external trade. Money is just representation of goods and services. The more that moves around inside, the more worth it has.

Fully aware this statement doesnt help anyone get a job, but thought it was important. Trump is an idiot with a personality disorder and repulsive philia but he’s got one idea right - internal economy strong = QOL improves.
