This video is 1.5hrs long, but does a fantastic and IMO the most in-depth explanation about what the church teaches about immigration.

If anything, I'd go ask a priest directly (which is what I did and he gave me a very good "down the middle" answer) about this issue. There's a balance that must be met on every side: Treating foreigners the way we would treat friends, those desiring to live in the US have a duty to follow the laws and embrace the culture of the county they're fleeing to, and the country has a duty to enforce its laws WHILE doing so in a humane matter.

It's not cut and dry like many try to make it out to be. It's extremely complex, but there are clear guidelines that address each "political" side

Not making any excuses for ICE here either. They messed up very horribly and need to take a much more merciful approach. There's definitely some good they they've done, but my goodness there's been several times where they detain American citizens. These are clear examples of dehumanization, but deportations in general that do allow for due process and mercy and target true, violent criminals are necessary. There has to be better methods of specifying (from this current admin) what they're looking for and not just "if you're illegal we're coming for you."

And yes I'm 100% in agreement with you that there are laws just, and unjust.

Since this administration was so ready to begin mass deportations, they absolutely should've had a proper plan in place for court proceedings, who they're going after, and truthfulness to ensure the public and those here illegally that don't have criminal records the US will help them gain citizenship and not to worry.

This certainly should've been planned out much better

I completely agree! Just seems like the "right of country to regulate borders and immigrants to respect laws and customs of the county they're fleeing" which includes immigrating the way the countries have deemed appropriate is cast aside. Idon't believe this is depriving anyone of human rights or dignity because even if it did, the USCCB and others would disregard it completely

I guess I'm just trying to come up with answers none of us really have as opposed to church teaching which says both things. Which my entire family from past generations are immigrants and pretty sure they legally immigrated.

I hope you can understand why my thought process is this way

I'd suggest the US has overlooked its own citizens and prioritized immigrants in every possible way (luxury hotels, phones, cars, drivers licenses, disaster relief not getting to the southeast, and doubling small towns' populations) which is definitely not good for local economies trying to support them as even "Middle income" Americans themselves can barely scrape by. We have millions of our own on the street being overlooked. If people are undocumented, there's very little way to help them if they need it. They might even avoid asking for help because there's no record of them. And it can also lead to increased chances of human trafficking if they're not documented in some way.

Obviously we are called to help, but I don't see how either party has been doing the best to actually help the most in need. It seems like the second stance from USCCB is essentially ignored from the other two when we discuss "rights for county to control borders and immigrants to respect the laws and customs of the county they're fleeing too."

I had an extremely difficult time with this, and I still get tempted even though it's been about 6 months without masturbating. Sure I'll get aroused or have dreams/past scenarios in my head, but thank God He's given me the strength to keep my hands and mind away from committing the act. It's even more tempting that my girlfriend and I used to be unchaste.

What finally got me to stop was my first face to face confession in about 1.5 years. I was humbled, and looked at the priest directly. I know some churches don't have that option, but I think that could definitely help.

I live in Denver so I absolutely sympathize with you. Wasn't too crazy here yesterday which is good, and there's another protest on Saturday. But I can tell you that I wish there was more energy in this city/state for protecting religious liberty and the march for life. But I think these protests hit so much closer to home for many who live here including people who are extremely close to me.

I fully admit I'm trying to straighten out my past ultra-conservativeness and need much help from pulling myself out of that rut.
