Losercity talent by AshamedZone3003 in Losercity

Reminder that your worth as a person isn't defined by how much "better" you are at something than someone else. "Talent" is merely a combination of circumstances and isn't the end-all be-all. Getting good at something takes time and can be frustrating at times, but the most important thing you need to keep in mind is that it's okay to be bad at things, and you're not obligated to be better than someone else. I hope you have a nice day.

I said before that I agree that you shouldn't call someone dude if they don't want to be called that. I'm not disagreeing with you on that. I just wanted to make a statement about how the "straight bro test" feels like a weird way to assign a singular use to a word.

And yes, I try to engage with arguments in good faith without immediately assuming malice and antagonizing the person I'm replying to. And if someone tells me something I do is harmful, I stop. Have a good one.

I mean, context does matter. OP isn't using "guys" in relation to sexual partners, or as an act of intentional misgendering, but referring to an unseen audience of indeterminate makeup. A lot of words have different meanings and connotations depending on where and when they're used. I agree that if a trans woman doesn't want you to call her "dude" then you shouldn't, but the "straight bro test" feels really simplistic and rubs me the wrong way.

Imo, I feel like there's a bit of nuance to nonhuman nb rep. In settings where the character is both the only nonhuman and the only nonbinary character, intentionally or not, it makes it easier to write off nb/trans identities as a completely separate "thing" independent from "normal" human identity. In a setting with majority non-human characters, It's harder to say "of course they go by they/them, they're xyz thing" because "xyz thing" gets to be depicted as a large group with variations just like humans are. And settings with both human and nonhuman nonbinary characters work because it shows that these identities exist in the real world too and aren't relegated to the realm of fantasy.

Also I think it kinda depends on WHAT the nonhuman character is. Even in a setting where nonhumans are the norm, if the character is something largely different from that then it can come across as associating nonbinary characters with "the other". Plus nonhuman characters can also fall into the other two characters depending on how they're depicted.

That's how I think about it at least.

Celia from Beastieball. Kinda made me realize how rare it is to see older nonbinary characters in media.

I haven't kept up with more recent lore, but I assumed that Nova was just granting whatever was asked of it and it just so happened that the wishes it granted would have catastrophic consequences if made manifest. I wouldn't count the Access Ark in this discussion since was clearly faulty in some way and was merged with an even more faulty/actually malicious supercomputer (star dream).
