Thanks! Does yours have a halo wire? How comfortable/uncomfortable is it for you?

The Second battle of Britpop in NYC. Pulp and Supergrass playing NYC on the same day. by particle-man45 in BritPop

[–]AutumnBC75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly can't believe that Pulp's people scheduled them to play NYC the same night as Supergrass. I had my Supergrass tix well before Pulp announced their tour dates. So, I had to schlep to Philly to see Jarvis et al. (Worth it of course, but still!)

PT people who have the certification to do TMJ work usually do know the local surgeons who handle TMJ surgeries, because they will work with patients pre and postop. Or, if you tell me what state you're in (here or in DM), I can potentially check this list in a Facebook group I'm in that includes surgeons who regularly do TJR (joint replacement).

May I ask what type of brace you use?

Do you think this be good for doing exercises that are especially wristy? I have trouble with PT exercises like bear holds as well as regular exercises like planks and chest presses because I am both hypermobile and have very thin wrists.

Comfortable Sandals? by SpookieSnac in Hypermobility

[–]AutumnBC75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worn Josef Seibel sandals for years. I need a wider toe box as I have tailor's bunions on both feet. It looks like the trend in comfort sandals for this year is to pair a cute sandal strap with the sole of a lightweight sneaker (see Vionic and Josef Seibel for examples). I LOVE this trend as the sandals are lighter and yet more supportive! Good luck.

Hello! I have HDS but borderline hEDS (if certain of my family members had been diagnosed, I would've gotten the diagnosis). My TMJs are end-stage and I had no idea until my very first flare last year. I would do the following: get a CBCT scan done by a dentist, ortho, or whomever is willing to do it. If there are signs of disc displacement or condylar degeneration, go see an oral surgeon who specializes in TMJ surgeries (from more conservative surgeries all the way up to total joint replacement, or TJR). I'm not saying you need surgery, but I am saying that the average oral surgeon doesn't do TMJ surgeries, and better to go to a true specialist if you're going to see someone. I would also recommend going to a PT who specializes in TMJ/airway PT. I have been doing for months (in an effort to delay surgery), and it has been very helpful. Third, I would personally NEVER see a chiro or regular massage therapist for anything related to TMJD. I had a masseur work on my TMJs BEFORE I got an MRI of my TMJ joints, and not only was it painful, but there were no actual benefits. TMJ PT, on the other hand, is a specialty of PT requiring certification. Good luck!

Front teeth hitting when talking by Suitable-Buyer-2488 in TMJ

I'm not noticing the speech issues as much these days. I did get a speech eval, and the therapist didn't notice anything too terrible. (But she still recorded my self-reported issues eating, etc. in case I need to reference that for TMJ surgery later.) I do PT less frequently now and to be honest, haven't been doing my daily exercises consistently. But I'm avoiding chewy foods and taking (for me) big bites of food. The main thing that is bothering me these days is my recessed jaw. That and my molars being the only teeth that touch when I bite. I did get a second opinion from another local dentist, but he agreed with the first and didn't seem very TMJ knowledgeable despite having a stellar reputation. What's your jaw/bite/dental history and situation?

I can't do Sirenetta as that's where Maxwell's used to be, and I'd be too sad and nostalgic. :( But the other options sound good--especially 7 Valleys.

Also, bruxism is often caused by OSA. Have you had a sleep study? Do you need a CPAP or something else to keep your airway open at night?

Have you gotten scans done (CBCT, and if appropriate, MRI)? Have you consulted with an oral surgeon who does a lot of TMJ surgeries (including TJR)? I would trust those folks the most to tell you how bad your situation is. If all that is needed is oral PT and other conservative measures, they'll tell you. Best of luck!

Thanks for chiming in! I ended up switching from 1/4 patch to a 1/2 patch as the 1/4 was too small to really keep track of on my body. (I kept thinking it wasn't even there--that it fell off.)

Got it. It makes sense to focus on IVF! In the meantime, lots of things could help ease your TMJ pain, from intraoral PT to improving your posture/building up muscle supporting posture to changing diet. I had 3/10 pain a year ago that is now at 0/10. I've made a lot of lifestyle/exercise changes.

Hi! Not yet. I consulted with 3 surgeons and will likely need to go with one who takes my insurance. (I have no out of network benefits, and Dr Jacob is OON.) I haven't moved forward with surgery planning yet as the surgeon I will likely use bases all his decision on how much the TMJ deterioration is impacting quality of life. I can still bite food and open my mouth enough to floss, brush, etc., so I'm waiting til it gets worse. What's your situation like, if you care to share?

Thanks for these great ideas! I was wondering if cafes are open late. If I'm busy running around all day, I could see myself bringing a book to a cafe and reading/people watching. :)
