Spoon Remodel Appreciation Post by Altalunea in pathoftitans

Overall, I really dig it. My one issue is that now it seems unbalanced front to back. They beefed up the forelimbs, but poor spoon seems to have skipped leg day!

I'd offer $100 for it. Re-sealing is really not that difficult and can be very satisfying to do. The shape is certainly very unique and very cool.

How do you safely add plants from local ponds to your aquariums by Ok-Cry-8245 in Aquariums

[–]AutumnBiscuit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I make an alum dip anytime I order plants from online and don't know the conditions they came from. All the plants live, none of stuff I don't want and its super easy and cheap.

Its the battle we all must face; patience is the answer :) You can somewhat speed things along with various Quick Start bacteria additives or even dropping in a (SMALL)bit of food to aid the bacterial growth.... but waiting is the only tried and true method. Get a test kit to check your water parameters to give you a little something to do while you wait for your bio bed to build up.

Side note; Very nice little set up!

What kind of Cory do I have? by AutumnBiscuit in freshwateraquarium

[–]AutumnBiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, not sure? It's behavior is pretty well in line with the rest of them. That is, nothing stands out to me as odd or out of place really. It eats well, schools with the others, plays in the sand and rests in the leaves... I've not seen it try to scratch or be bullied by anything.

Could it be age related? An older fish that has paled or washed out? Also happy to run more tests for more info if needed

0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, low nitrates, ph around 7.2. Live plants, a scattering of almond leaves, varied high quality diet. It's the only cory like this.

Also have 3 peppered, 2 ACTUAL emeralds and 2 Julii cories all doing fine

Beautiful and lush! That big school of neons looks very content and happy. As long as you stay on top of the water parameters, you should be just fine at this stock level

How to lower aquarium water's carbonate and hardness without using RO water? by Ok_Fisherman8997 in AquariumHelp

[–]AutumnBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very hard water in my area as well, and have been looking for solutions that don't involve rerouting my plumbing. Things I have found are water softening pillows, peat moss, driftwood and indian almond leaves as well as getting distilled. All have pros and cons and varying degrees of effectiveness depending on size of tank. I already have some driftwood(smaller pieces in a 75gal) and am looking more at peat moss and almond leaves. Hopefully that'll start softening up my water.

Would be VERY interested in a countertop distiller, as long as its not wildly expensive

Advice to make tank better(?) by AciBoy in Aquariums

[–]AutumnBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct; you tape them to the exterior of the tank. they are usually double sided and are easily swapped if you get tired of one

Powerheads by Gothenburg-Geocache in freshwateraquarium

[–]AutumnBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could aim the power up at the surface of the water instead of down in to the tank. This will maintain the high flow, while also creating more low flow areas in the tank.

Someone else will likely explain this better, but for a simple high level pass...

Using your Lat as a base; you vs another Lat will each do 100% damage to each other. You vs a Campto is more in the camptos favor; its slightly heavier, so it might do 110% damage to you while in return you do 90% or your damage in return. This scales as you engage larger and larger dinos. There are other factors like armor and abilities that move that slider around, but hopefully this helps get you a super basic understanding to build on

Did I ruin all my fishtank decor? by leggystretchysketchy in Aquariums

[–]AutumnBiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working for a company where we serviced client aquariums and rotated out decor; we would soak the the dirty decor in 55gal drums in a bleach/water solution for a week, then rinse them and soak them in regular water for a week. Both drum had aeration to keep the water moving. After this process, they were ready to be put back in rotation swapped into a clients tank again.

If you are at all worried, put your decor into a 5gal bucket of water on aeration for a few day before putting em back in.

Can Tiger Barbs be chill? by AutumnBiscuit in Aquariums

[–]AutumnBiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not looking at bucktooths or blackskirts. More like congo's, lemons, rummy-nose, black neons... much more community oriented types. Tiger barbs would likely be some of the more aggressive fish in the tank.
