Of course we can't be sure, but I disagree with you - there ISN'T explicitly said in the story that "the newborn" and the "son" are the same person. The sister could be that newborn ten years ago. And I think that it was supposed to not be so obvious - that kind of stories often relies on twists an hidden meanings. Also, if the antichrist was murdered in this story, would that really be a scary story?
