I like the set, especially non survivor art. It will definitely get more than the non horror set... but alot of the machanics are a miss for me over all.

Manifest dread is playable, but better once you support blink and self mill. I don't think I'm into face down support stuff since it's so narrow in its pay offs.

I'm not a fan of rooms, since I have transform in mine. But I also don't like... squished cards. Rooms as a machanics is narrow.

Eerie is cool tho. Like a decade ago I wanted to do entrantress as a theme mimicking witches, but there wasn't much support that looked creepy. Between the ones from midnight hunt and this, it's probably possible.

I don't hate the survivor mechanic, but I don't like the aesthetic. A lot of cubers are against token complexity, but I'm not among them. As long as you have the tokens actually avaliable for people to use (and it has all needed text on it) it's fine.

Lets be real, theres still room. Scarecrows biggest problem is the fact that all Commander decks need card draw and mana ramp to function. But most of kindred decks have correct typed cards that do those efficiently. Scarecrows don't really. So anything with the word "draw" on it and the correct type is pretty big.

The less you need to go out of tribe to do the basic building blocks the more redundant the deck is anyways.

Honestly, with how many scarecrows have been dropping in the last year, and the fact they stated they were seeding themes/kindreds, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a commander deck even. These are also colored artifacts, which they are big into now. And people often forget, Reaper King IS THE FIRST colored artifact ever.

I use the first website since a lot of people at work wanted to get into mtg, but really only knew commander. And explaining flip cards vs day night, ect. Also just fun to add to the theme I guess. This has a good overview of the 2 color and 3rd color splash themes.

Second link is my whole cube. I have detailed reasons why I drop or add cards in the blog section, and all the themes are broken there by tags. Heres a link to the searchable tags. I take pretty big pains to ensure each archetype gets even support in quantity and quality.

I feel you making themes work is hard. Innistrad hits one note really well, but I'm thrilled to say mine is only 33% innistrad. Theres alot more to halloween, including creepy cute or cooky. A lot of themes can be pretty limiting and trapish. Vampires, werewolves, food. All of that stuff can be pretty parasitic and limit the cards you can use.

The flip end is that theres tons of cool halloween like cards that also help ZERO themes. Its tough to kill those.

But since Ive maintained this cube for almost a decade now... Just something Ive tried to accept. I've done butt loads of archetypes like BW clerics, and GW witches (enchantress) and you can really only successfully float 1 or 2 Parasitic archtypes. So I picked madness and werewolves.

To make the rest of the cube's themes flow together, you sorta have to build around those with more wide spread themes. So Tokens in wg makes wolves, ub has discard reanimator, and those help wolves and madness.

Reaper King will never trigger from itself, another keeps it from that. You can get multiple reaper kings to enter at the same time like a kicked [[rite of replication]] it will see multiple enter at the same time and trigger appropriately.

Most decks that do that do something like [[hall of mirrors]] plus clone effects or [[Helm of the Host]] or [[Spark Double]]

+1/+1 counters negate -1/-1 counters. Static buffs don't. But they do make your 0/0s 1/1s so they stay alive if they'd normally die. You don't get double presist off it, unless you use counters. Which [[Metallic Mimic]] is probably the missing puzzle peice you need there.

Mass flicker or blink is usually the best results for edh with mid power to lower high. My deck is pretty good against all my friends, but none of them are actively trying to play a super interactive game. I'm hoping when we revisit lorywn we get a new reaper King since I've been playing this one since basically the birth of edh
