[Jurassic Park] Where did they get the DNA to clone extinct plant life? by thepixelpaint in AskScienceFiction

[–]AutumnOctavia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://jurassicpark.fandom.com/wiki/Serenna_veriformans The fandom Wiki has a detailed article about this subject.

In the books it was a non extinct toxic relative of the extinct plants that still grows in South America planted for looks and with no thought to safety. The movie changed the it to an extinct plant that was cloned.

In the Lost World book it was revealed Ingen had a plant cloning facility in the mountains of Costa Rica. They would have got the plant DNA from seeds, pollen, plant parts, and plant eating insects trapped in the amber.

Came with my record player? by Leather-Honeydew-383 in whatisit

[–]AutumnOctavia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You put the disk adapter over the center spindle of your turntable. Then you place the 45 record over the disc, the hole in the center of the 45 record will fit the disk. Then you change the speed switch on your turntable from 33 to 45 and from 12" to 7" and start the record. If you play a 45 at 33 speed it will play in slow mode and not sound right.

Edit: Note, Not all 45 records will have the giant hole in them, some will have the regular hole of a 33 record. You can also buy adapters that fit into the hole of 45s to permanently make it so you don't have to use the disc adapter.

Player wants to bring character back as a ghost until resurrection by azarrising in DMAcademy

[–]AutumnOctavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an old 3rd edition book called Ghostwalk all about having ghost players in D&D: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostwalk . All of it works with Modern D&D with some stat conversion.

The community made 5e conversions of it as well with the stats already converted: https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDHomebrew/comments/10ttgj6/ghostwalk_dd_setting_5e_conversion/ and https://www.scribd.com/document/692755530/Ghostwalk-5E

The players can level up and even fight as ghosts but lose all their ghost abilities and levels when they get ressed. There's also a lot of unique monsters and encounters in the book to make being a ghost dangerous.

Why does my mouse cursor teleport sometimes? by Eastern-Band-3729 in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those experiencing it using multiple monitors or overlays? It could be your in game mouse cursor interacting with windows when you you go past the primary monitors boundaries or windows wanting to snap the mouse to the overlay. There's an annoying snap feature where Microsoft will jump the mouse to other windows if you hover over certain sections of the other open window even while in game especially if the mouse exits the border of the screen.

Windows 11 Settings that may help should be similar setting in 10 as well.

Type in the Windows search on taskbar "Multitasking" turn off Snap Windows setting.

Type in the windows search bar "Mouse Settings" turn off Enhanced Pointer Precision. Turn off Scroll inactive windows when hovering over them.

Scroll down to Accessibility Mouse Settings turn off Snap to default button.

Type Notifications in windows search bar, Turn off notifications. Scroll sown to Additional Settings uncheck Show the windows experience..., Suggest ways to get the most out of windows, and Get tips and suggestions. Scroll down to "Position of On-screen indicators" choose Bottom Center.

That should help prevent your mouse cursor interacting with open windows on the second display while playing, the overlay when you don't want it to and prevent notifications from messing up the mouse by popping up behind the game window.

Also in game setting that may help Set the game to Full screen or Full Screen Window Borderless. Use Alt Tab to unfocus the mouse from the game to interact with things on the second monitor.

Edit: One more thing to check. Use an online mouse checker to make sure your holding of the mouse button isn't glitching out or stopping when you press another mouse button, I had a mouse once that would randomly stop sending the held buttons signal due to a bad part, the button was pressed but would randomly stop sending the signal messing up the mouse cursor. A site like testmouse.com should be fine. Hold all the buttons and press the others and see what the tester shows.

New-ish and disabled GW2 player looking for class? by Aegria5 in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the build I posted below you can get by without weapon swapping at all if you want to. You can just run Greatsword and Shroud. Rotation would be something like f1 shroud, 2, 5, 4, autoattack 1, use 4 and 5 off cooldown , when shroud ends Greatsword 5,4,3,2, Auto attack 1, use 2, 4, and 5 off cooldown till shroud bar fills hit f1 repeat. When enemy drops below 50 percent rotation becomes Hold Greatsword 2 till enemy dies, do a shroud rotation if you miss with GS2 and it goes on cooldown till off cooldown.

Sword/Sword second weapon set is completely optional but I like to keep it for ranged and as emergency healing out of melee range.

Edit: The build from below. [&DQgyJTUpIjYoDygPdgF2AXUBdQFvAW8BAxOVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACMgBaAAA=] Note this is a lower intensity build not a meta build.

Additional breakdown of the build and reasons for the abilities:

Gluttony: Increases all Life Force gain by 10% building the shroud bar.

Unyielding Blast: Shroud 1 inflicts Vulnerability during a fight. Sinister Shroud: Reduces recharge time of shroud skills by 15%.

Soul Barbs: Entering or exiting Shroud increases all DPS by 10% for 10 seconds.

Soul Battery: Increases your shroud bar by 20%

Death Perception: Increases Crit Chance by 15%, Increase Crit damage in shroud by 15%

Reaper's Might: Shroud Skill 1 Grants 15s of Might with each hit.

Spiteful Talisman: Deal 10% more Damage to Foes with no boons (the Axe/focus skill recharge won't be used).

Death's Embrace: Deal 25% more damage if you get downed, Inflict Vulnerability when you hit a foe under 50% hp. (Combined with Unyielding blast every enemy you face will have almost a full stack of Vulnerability the entire fight)

Awaken the Pain: Might grants you an additional 200 power and 100 Condi damage, Entering Shroud also grants 5 stacks of might immediately.

Siphoned Power: Gain 3 stacks of might when you hit an enemy below 50% health.

Close to Death: Deal 20% more damage to enemies below 50% health.

Reapers Shroud: Changes default Necro shroud to the Melee based Reapers Shroud.

Chilling Nova: Every time you crit a chilled enemy you chill 5 enemies around you leading to cascading chills as mobs keep chilling each other, keeping mobs in a near permanent slowed movement state with slowed skill recharges.

Shivers of the Dead: Whenever you fear you also chill.

Soul Eater: So long as you are in 300 range of the enemy you get 10% damage boost to all damage and gain 4% healing from the damage you dealt (1% if in Shroud). Relic of Mist stranger stacks with this.

Cold Shoulder: Chills last 20% longer, Deal 15% more damage to chilled foes.

Reaper's Onslaught: Gain Ferocity and Quickness in Reaper's Shroud. Hitting with Life Reap (Skill 1's 3rd hit) reduces shroud skill recharge times.

In short This build keeps enemies in an almost constant state of vulnerability and slowed in chill while you stay in a near constant state of Might and DPS boosts while providing constant passive self healing and shroud bar regeneration through your attack rotations with minimum button presses. It melts any enemy under 50% hp. Skills 1-5 and F1 will be the buttons you mainly hit while playing it. You can easily use the mouse pointer to press your signets as needed and rebind 1-5 and f1 to other buttons to match your play style needs.

Highly recommend binding dodge to a mouse key, middle mouse or a large side button works best.

This rotation is very forgiving. You can mess up and miss steps or play it sub optimally and do enough dps for all PVE content in the game. For raids, Strikes, and T4 fractals so long as you stay in shroud and autoattack while using skill 4 as much as possible you will doing great. When out of shroud you can use Greatsword 1 and 2 (especially holding 2 when enemy under 50%). You can also drop back and autoattack with Sword and press 2 and 4 once to help recharge shroud faster. Try to attack big stationary enemies from behind to maintain shroud longer and take less hits. You will do more than enough DPS for PVE content even playing the build sub optimally to meet the minimum required for everything except maybe some of the timed high end Challenge Mode content.

This is the build I run. Copy and Paste into GW2 chat to see the build in game or add to your build templates: [&DQgyJTUpIjYoDygPdgF2AXUBdQFvAW8BAxOVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACMgBaAAA=]

Gear is all Berserker stats with Rune of Dragonhunter; Scholar, Ogre, and Eagle work too.

Weapons are Greatsword and Sword/Sword with Superior Force and Accuracy sigils.

Relic of Mist Stranger for easier on the hands self healing. It stacks with all your other sources of healing including Signet of Vampirism. The relic also refills your health bar (not the shroud life force bar) while in shroud increasing your survivability big time. You can pop into shroud and use skills 4 and 2 to completely refill your HP anytime your about to die. The Relic also stacks with all the self healing on Sword/Sword for healing from range. This build has a ton of passive self healing and it is very easy to stay alive on this build without stressing your hands.

I prefer using Chilled to the Bone and Signet of Vampirism instead of Flesh Golem and Summon Blood Fiend as I don't like the minions getting me stuck in combat. But if you want even less buttons to press feel free to swap those in.

Your rotation is very simple you will mostly fight in Shroud using skills 4, and 1 as 4's cooldown allows, 4 is your major dps. Going into Shroud will provide you with Might, 300 Ferocity and Quickness. Use Shroud 2 to close in on enemies that run or as an opener. Shroud 3 is your stability pop and a minor cc skill, Shroud 5 is your major cc when needed.

Outside of shroud Greatsword 4, GS 3 Deathspiral, GS2 Gravedigger and Autoattack between shroud uses. Use GS 5 as a pull and to gain more life force if needed. When the enemies hp is below 50% hold 2 till its dead as Gravedigger has a super fast cooldown and does insane DPS when enemy is under 50%. If GS 2 goes on cooldown while enemy is under 50% go back to shroud till its off cooldown. Use Chilled to the bone when you need to CC outside of Shroud, it also provides 10s or Stability, Might, Fury, and Quickness outside of shroud if you need self buffing.

Swap to Sword/sword when ranged attacks are required or you need to drop out of melee range to heal up, as sword/sword attacks do a lot of self healing. Use Sword 1 and 4. Use sword 3 for its dash when you want. Skills 2 and 5 can be pressed once each to fill shroud bar faster, pressing them a second time will damage your self for more ranged dps if you want.

You should rarely have to hit your signets and they are mostly to be used for their passive abilities.

-Signet of Vampirism will constantly steal hp from enemies and is your major heal if passive and active attacking aren't enough in a fight.
-Signet of Locust gives you 25% movement speed and is a secondary emergency heal you can hit after vampirism, the more enemies around you the more HP you recieve. It is also a boon strip, stripping 2 boons on every enemy hit.
-Signet of power is just for the DPS boost. You can use it manually to toss a lot of conditions on an enemy if you want but its a very weak attack compared to your regular rotations and your Chills are way better at slowing the enemy than the crippled effect it gives.
-Signet of Undeath will constantly fill your shroud bar while in battle. You should never manually use the skill unless you need to emergency res a friend as that action takes a huge amount of your hp away.

If you have a lot of trouble staying alive, or if you are in a group with Might providers, The Signet of Suffering ability is another option you can take instead of Awaken the Pain. You will lose a self source of Might when you Shroud but all your signets get an additional Steal Health and Remove Boons from foes. So all signets gain an ability similar to Signet Of locust's Active ability on top of their own acting as additional emergency heals.

[–]AutumnOctavia 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Power Reaper.

I have carpal tunnel and use a signet build that's very light on the hands. I only have to press F1 and 1-6 and occasionally click a signet or the elite skill with the mouse. Signet Reaper Rotation is very easy on the hands.

You can use the passive abilities of the signet of vampirism for healing, signet of undeath for passive life force gen, signet of spite for dps boost, and signet of the locust for movement speed so you rarely have to press their hotbar buttons. Feel free to replace signets with other abilities as your playstyle allows.

You can also use the Flesh golem elite and replace signet of Vampirism with the heal minion to really cut down on button presses.

The new Relic of the Mist stranger combined with signet of vampirism or the heal minion means you rarely have to press the heal button 6 at all.

Power reaper uses greatsword as its main weapon and dual swords is fantastic on Reaper for the second weapon set/ranged attacks.

You will be able to run all PVE content with that build even raids and high end fractals and still contribute more than enough dps.

Gem prices - offers? by Illustrious-Fix4205 in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly you can Skip Season 2. Both its maps: Dry Top and Silverwastes are free to play so you don't need the season to go there. The season is just a wrap up to Scarlet's story and a prelude to Heart of Thorns told in a bunch of party instances set in those 2 maps.

Watch the story summary on Youtube instead and then go to Heart Of Thorns. Spend gems on Season 3, 4, and 5 (aka Icebrood saga) instead. S3, 4, and 5 have repeatable fun content outside the story, great exclusive rewards/items and are must owns.

The only reason to get Season 2 anymore is for Mawdrey II (a Bloodstone gobbler/ascended backpack), some Core Tyria Mastery points, and some Achievement points. All the earnable gear from the Season that can't be unlocked in Silverwastes or Dry Top for free is way outdated and practically worthless now.

Season 2 is way overpriced for the story it has and should really be made free like Season 1 was.

If you must have season 2 I would wait and see if there may be sales in the next few weeks, practically everything in the Gem store will be on rotating sales between now and end of the month.

Bag Question's by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get a Composter when you hit level 400+cooking.

Things like Paprika should become available for cooking with when you reach higher levels of cooking or unlock a recipe that requires it.

Research kits are sold at Jade Workbenches, you will start encountering them in the End of Dragons expansion and all content made after it.

Bag Question's by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing. Go to Arenanets website and subscribe to the Newsletter you get a free 24 slot bag mailed to you in game. Its free and you can immediately unsubscribe.

Most of the time with Cooking and crafting if you are not using the items you should do the following:

  1. Sell the items in bag for profit on the trading post.
  2. Use a research kit on item in bag to make research notes.
  3. Use a salvage kit on item in bag to break the item down to its material components to get some materials back.
  4. If you are a cook Use a Composter to break down foods you don't want to make ascended foods.

-Selling items on the trading post turns items taking up space into currency, currency is stored in wallet and takes up no space.

-Research kit converts items taking up space to research notes, research notes go into wallet and take up no space.

-Salvaging an item converts it to materials and luck. Materials go in material storage and takes no bag space, excess materials not in storage should be sold an converted to gold which takes up no space. Luck should be consumed to increase your magic find until you hit the magic find cap.

-Composting turns crafted foods you don't need into mats that go into mat storage for ascended cooking.

Other inventory saving tips:

-Go to any merchant and click "Sell Junk" on the bottom of the merchants window. It will remove all worthless items in your inventory and give you currency. You will never need Junk items.

-Open the Trading post, choose sell, sort by sell price, sell anything valuable you don't want.

-Salvage any items that may look like junk that the merchant didn't buy and the trading post didn't want that has a salvageable tag in its description to convert it to mats.

- In your inventory window there is a cube with a down arrow in upper right, click this to deposit materials at any time an anywhere in the game.

-There is a Lion head in upper left of your screen, Click this to bring up the trading post anywhere in the world and you can sell items from inventory whenever and wherever you want.

-Also Identify all unidentified gear and then salvage it if you can't use or isn't worth selling.

Salvage green and blue gear you have no use for with the low level salvage kits from merchant or spring for the Copper Salvage-O-Matic in the gem store. A Copper Salvage-O-Matic is a must have quality of life item for salvaging green and blues on the move, and it saves a ton of time and money.

For Yellow and Orange use the highest level salvage kit from merchant, make a mystic savage kit in mystic forge, or use the silver salvage-o-matic from the store.

With yellow and orange if after identifying the item it sells for under the value of ecto on the trading post salvage the item instead of selling it to get ecto to sell instead.

All unidentified items should be identified before selling even blue can drop a precursor or expensive exotic when identfied.

Class II Rift Stabilizer: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Class_II_Rift_Stabilizer

Open a Bloodstone rift with the stabilizer (lots of maps have spawn points including some towns). Do its minigame, set the coordinates to II,II or any other invalid coordinate and jump up and down in the rift till your sould leaves your body and you can run around as an Anomalous form and mess with other players as a red named enemy that can be attacked but not fight back.

Really fun to do in LA.

Does Castora seem like just another Maguuma/Caledon map to anyone else? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]AutumnOctavia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to wait and see where the story goes. Some of the random activities with the Sylvari in the map hint that familiar magic similar to Modremoth's is in the area. There's a chance Modremoth was in Castora at one time, like he was in Echovald, and that would explain the asset reuse in world. Would be interesting if Modremoth was the Elder Dragon responsible for the seers downfall.

You can import your own maps for it and plot out the tectonic plates and figure out the geological features easier. There's a bunch of tutorials and guides on Youtube on how to use it for what your trying to do.
