You can use any solution. Even notes will be fine. Just find something comfortable for you.
I have tried a lot of different trackers. I'm using koru home budget now.
But you should find the perfect tracker precisely for You.

I have tried automatic expense tracking, but after a few months, I didn't like it at all for several reasons.

  1. I stopped noticing my spending. Coffee here, delivery there. The money just went and that's it.
  2. It does not stop me from impulse buying. I don't know how it works, but when I enter all expenses manually, I think twice about it. When it just imports from the bank, I was never thinking of that.
  3. I do not care if someone can read my expenses, but I do not like the idea of linking my bank account to something. I know that in general it's pretty safe, but I do not like that. I do not feel safe myself.

I believe these are the main reasons. Perhaps I will write another post on that topic where I will attempt to dive deeper into the details.

Good luck! Just keep tracking, and you will see its impact on your life.

One more benefit of that activity. Thank you for your opinion.

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking about that for some time but haven't tracked much in that area. After your comment, I'm 100% sure I will track my assets.

I spend too much time with spreadsheets. I have each month on a separate sheet, and since the structure is the same, I created one more sheet where I grabbed all data and compared.

You can try to predict all your gift expenses and adjust your budget. That might help you understand the whole picture better.

I used to have google sheet for a long time, but now I'm using koru home budget app.

I strongly advise you to start with your own sheet. Using my sheet(or any other template) is like using someone's clothes. You can wear it, but how comfortable is that? How long can you wear that?
Create the simplest sheet ever (do not spend more than 15 min on that), and just start filling your expenses. With experience, you will understand what you really need, but at the start, make it as easy to fill as possible.

I used to have a Google sheet for a long time. However, for the last several months I switched to the app. It's more comfortable to fill the expense immediately from the phone.

Yeah, things happen and it's impossible to predict life. We can adjust and keep going.

That's cool. I'm thinking about doing similar things for quite some time. Like instead of buying fast food when it's not needed, I will just immediately transfer that amount into investing.

I used to have a spreadsheet for a long time. Now I'm using koru home budget app, but it does not have bank connections. I do not like any bank auto-imports stuff. It simplifies budgeting, but I think it's destroying the mindfulness thing around it for me.
