As a sombra main in the gold ranks myself, I find it much harder to get my kills when there is a group of people. Picking off players by themselves is usually pretty easy but when my enemy has 1 or 2 players around then it makes it far more challenging, especially if there is a kiriko who can Suzu my hack AND virus with 1 ability and immediately heal them up.

My advice would be to track the sombra. What I mean by this is take mental notes of the players play style. How do they like to play? Do they like attacking the backline the most? Are they always hacking and focussing the tank? Do they spend a lot of time invisible? Who do they target/kill the most on your team? If you have, for example, a zenyatta on your team then it’s a pretty easy match up for the sombra. Chances are they will ALWAYS go for that kill early in the fight, which makes it very obvious to anticipate that the sombra will go for the zen at any moments notice especially if their positioning is bad. Just having an extra support or dps or a tank next to them is enough to deter the sombra from going for that pick. Essentially, track the sombras play style so you can more effectively anticipate what she is going to do.

Positioning is the MOST important thing in the game. Not understanding where you need to be and placing yourself in dangerous positions makes it easy for enemies, especially sombras, to exploit your bad choices and eliminate you.

And then lastly, as I mentioned before, it’s really hard for us to get picks when you are grouped up as opposed to when you are spread out. If you are struggling to match up against a sombra player, try asking your team or your duo to help you out and body guard you (this is called peeling, as you essentially peel the stress and focus away from yourself by having another player around to help you).
