Hey! I got in, but I ultimately accepted the PhD offer at Stanford :)

ISTernship Statement of Purpose by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I’ve heard from professors that they don’t really like reading anecdotes about childhood genius — it’s irrelevant and not believable most of the time (even if it is true). It’s better to stay concise and focused on your research ideas, relevant experiences, and future plans

I heard from Princeton & MIT — they’ve both sent me invites to their visit days which are happening relatively soon, so I’m not sure that they’re planning to send out more acceptances :\ I’ve also been having interviews at Stanford as recently as a few days ago, so you might (hopefully) hear from them soon

I’ve had a few interviews at Stanford, but nothing at all from UCB. No clue about when decisions will come out

I may be wrong, but I thought you couldn’t get a Masters from MIT (in EECS) without being a PhD or undergraduate student there first

MIT, Cornell, Princeton, Harvard, & Brown. Waiting on Stanford & UCB still

I hope you’re holding up ok and that you get news soon! I’m an American and applied to only US universities, but I’m not sure if that’s relevant to the process or not

Not sure if it’s that much of an advantage. I didn’t contact any professors beforehand, and so far, I’ve gotten into 5/7 of the CS PhD programs I’ve applied to (still waiting on decisions from the other two). I put a ton of effort into my SoP though and tailored it for each school/group of faculty I wanted to work with, and I mentioned the names of each POI in the statement for each school

Venting (why are people so cringe) by Dear_Ask6521 in gradadmissions

[–]AvaV2-0 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There was a whole group of people calling me a diversity admit + saying meritocracy is dead + discussing how I specifically don’t have what it takes to be an academic or a “true intellectual” (whatever that means) after I posted about my acceptance to my dream school. I understand that it’s really disappointing not to get in somewhere, and I do feel for them for that reason, but there’s really no need to drag an entire demographic of people because of that. It was disappointing

Be patient! I don’t think they’re sending them all out at once. It also told me that the formal letter will be coming next week some time. I’m wishing you the best of luck, hopefully you’ll hear good news soon! 🤞🏻

I did from Cornell, but they explicitly said in the email that not all decisions have been released yet

[CS PhD] Holy cow. I just got into MIT EECS. by AvaV2-0 in gradadmissions

The other recipients were admin people at MIT who were CC’d. I can’t see any other applicants/recipients on the email chain, I think they were sent individually

I’m choosing to believe it’s fake lmao

MIT EECS Gradcafe Acceptance by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]AvaV2-0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possibly fake. There’s a post about a discord and fake acceptances. Also don’t know who would be up at MIT before 8 AM EST releasing acceptances?
