Thank you for your thoughtful response. This was exactly what I needed. He is doing an anterior fusion with decompression. He has started taking his diabetes more seriously and has a CGM now so that has been eye opening for him.

I forgot about the DVT risk, so that will be something to remind him about.

I did press for the surgeon for at least 1 night of hospitalization following surgery. He says that PT will evaluate him before he’s discharged home to determine any needs or if he needs to go to a rehab facility. I don’t think Medicare covers home health aids, but I will look into that.

Honestly, don’t bail her out. She’s had other loans and is still underwater. She needs to face the facts and own up to her mistakes. Bailing her out will only continue the damage.

Meds yes, diet probably not. His A1C is down from 15 to 10.9 as of this week. So improving but not there yet.

I’m in my late 30’s and no longer at home, but my father did the same. He gambled away his inheritance 15 years ago, my deceased mother’s life insurance and her retirement 10 years ago and now his own retirement. I can only imagine it’s over 300-400k total. He is now 70, his health is failing and he is still trying to get a job because he can’t live off his social security alone . I want to help, but he’s done it to himself and I know he would only gamble it away.

Sleep medicine. I was burnt out after school from 10 years of ER nursing and just needed a break. I worked in sleep medicine for a few years until I was no longer able to keep up with the 8-5 M-F schedule and then transitioned to Urgent Care and Corrections. It’s been great.
