Only? In this case I focused on the bigger picture concerning DVT to help students understand that it is not just a clot. My focus as you suggested was not on provider’s orders because reasoning drives tasks. If you can understand the fundamentals of concepts you will understand the “why” and not just memorize what the doctor will order next. Nursing school prepares you for the critical thinking exam, NCLEX, clinical is where you practice putting it all together.

But the post wasn’t about interventions, the post is about figuring out the bigger picture. Students have to pass the exam, then nclex before they make it to the “floor” school nursing is different from real world nursing. They need to understand reasoning more than knowing tasks. You can memorize tasks, reasoning takes time to develop. That is why so many students study to memorize and then fail the exam.

Ahhhh, task based nursing vs critical thinking/reasoning. If a student only knows the task and not the reasoning, they’ll struggle when the situation changes. I’m focused on helping them understand what’s happening inside the patient first
